Carmel,
I'm sad to learn of Seamus's death RIP and wish to extend my condolences to you and Seamus's friends. I also am the offspring of a Clogher Garda, I'm a contemporary of your late brother Harry.
Having gone away to work in 1949, my memories are mainly second-hand but good.

Seamus was a close family friend and icon of my childhood. He was always so kind, funny and great with all of us kids, not to mention a constant provider of sweets. I know that my parents Vera and Gerry valued his friendship enormously. When my mother died as a child he started taking us to the library every week. I always remember him being nothing but patient and kind. A true gentleman.
May he rest in peace!

So very sorry to learn of Seamus McQuillan's sad demise. Although I knew Seamus for most of my life, it was our lunchtime chats in Hanratty's, when I came back from Donegal in 1997, which established our friendship. We both had great interest in and shared stories of past local history of Termonfeckin and Clogher. He delighted in researching the past and sharing his findings. He loved his village and its community to which he devoted many years of his life. I missed sharing those lunchtime stories and fables with Seamus when I retired and on learning of his sad demise the memories of those times came flooding back. He was a lovely person, wonderful company and a true Clogherhead man. I extend my sympathy to his family and his many friends in Clogher and beyond.
