Deepest condolences Marie, the Flynn family and all of Séamus’s relatives and friends. I was so saddened and shocked to hear of his passing.
Séamus was, as we say in Ireland, a Character, full of craic, with a story for everybody. When reading through these Condolences you can see the joy he brought to so many. We are all thankful that he added so much happiness to our lives. Marie, you can be proud of the many years you spent with him.
Christmas is not a good time to receive bad news but every Christmas I always remember a story that Seamus told that lifted my spirits about a local character who went to Midnight Mass after consuming a good few pints and got overexcited in his “renouncing of the Devil”. The number of stories he told was infinite and I‘m sure we all have a favourite. Even his physical abilities were notable. I remember him balancing an old milk bottle on the back of his head, bending down to kiss the ground and standing back up without spilling a drop! Also, I wonder how may of you were lucky enough to hear his rendition of The Auld Triangle.

Séamus you will be missed and never forgotten.

May his soul and the souls of all our departed family and friends Rest in Peace.

I have never in my life laughed harder than when in the company of my cousin Marie's husband Seamus Flynn. In 1979 when they came to New York for my sister Marie's wedding Seamus spent the weeks he was with us entertaining us all mercilessly. No one who met him ever forgot him. But underlying the mirth was a big heart. Marie's major cardiovascular surgery years ago left Seamus nearly in pieces, and the sincerity of his prayers at that time, when she was near death, may well have made the difference. "Stan" also patriotically loved Ireland and would seldom let a conversation go five minutes before talking history and politics. He suffered physically a great deal in recent years and I think without the devotion and comfort of Marie it might have broken him. Let's all of us pray unceasingly for the repose of his soul and speed him to his heavenly home!

Eternal rest grant unto him. Release, O Lord, the souls of all the faithful departed from the bonds of their sins; and by the assistance of Thy grace may they escape the sentence of condemnation, and enjoy the bliss of eternal light.
— Tommy McArdle, New York
