A mutual friend recommended Sean to us in relation to a case that I'm involved in. Sadly we only got to meet him a handful of times. He was a thorough gent and a great story teller. It's a pity that we'll never get to have a pint with him now. It's hard to believe he's gone. Our deepest sympathies to his wife and family.

I was very sad to read of Sean's death in the Irish Law Society Gazette over the weekend and I send my sincerest sympathy to all his family. I knew Sean in UCD and often met him around Dublin in the years that followed before I left for London in the mid-1980s. He was a kind, friendly and amusing man and a good colleague. It is a great tribute to Sean that so many people have posted their condolences here. May he rest in peace.

Niamh and all the Gallaghers, we are so sorry and send all our love. Even though we only met him a handful of times, Seán left a big impression. That is the kind of person he was - a big presence and a big heart. I feel I know Seán better than I actually did because he used to phone Niamh for a chat to check in every single lunchtime when I shared an office with her in the Children's Rights Alliance some years back. I just thought it so caring and the mark of a man for whom his children come first. George and I have lovely memories of him and Noelle at Christmas parties and referendum celebrations since. We remember fondly when we once spotted some of the Gallaghers passing our house on Clonliffe Road after a Dublin game in Croke Park. We ended up having a good old catch up and glass of wine in our house together. Niamh and Stephen's wedding was so full of fun and love - but Seán gave George something of an ultimatum and we were engaged within three months! We will happily credit him for finally making our own wedding happen! Seán was first and foremost a loving father and husband. He was also incredibly shrewd, witty, honest, charming and kind. His untimely loss will be felt enormously but his legacy lives on in his wonderful children and beautiful grandchildren. Love from Emma and George xx
— Emma McKinley

O Lord, support us all the day long, until the shadows lengthen and the evening comes, and the busy world lies hushed, and the fever of life is over, and our work is done. Then in thy mercy grant us a safe lodging, and a holy rest, and peace at the last.
— Wayne Tyrrell
Seán, you will be greatly missed by all who knew you. One of life’s greats.

Dear Noelle,

It was with great sadness and utter shock that we heard of Seans untimely passing.

I first met Sean when we commenced the B.C.L. together.Sean quickly became one of the most popular guys in the class and nothing changed over the next 50 years.Everybody loved Sean, even those practitioners who were on the opposing side in our adversarail legal world over the years.

Colleagues always respected him for his vast knowledge of the law,his thoroughness in preparation, his tenacity and his courage in fighting to the last for all his clients. Those colleagues invariably became Seans friends also.

It was always a joy to meet Sean.He always had the latest gossip and always wanted to know the inside story on the latest political or legal scandal, all the more to enrich or enhance his own version to pass on to others.

Sean will be greatly missed by all who knew him but especially by his friends in the legal world and of course by you and all the family.

Noelle,we are thinking of you and the family at this truly awful time.
— Imelda and Jerry Collins

Dear John, we are thinking of you and your family at this desperately sad time. From all the messages below, it's so very clear that your Dad was such a popular, well-liked fella who had an enormously positive impact on so many people's lives - just like his son. Just yesterday, by coincidence, I overheard two people I don't know very well talk fondly about your Dad. No doubt he'll continue to be a source of inspiration and strength to you all long into the future.

Lots of love,
