Condolences to the family of Sean O Donnell. I do not know the family. I understand he worked in the Tunnels with many more men from Donegal. I wish to relate a story that happened on a cold, wet November evening in a Catholic religious shop in Leytonstone High Street, London E11 at almost closing time 6pm nearly 20 years ago. I was there with the shopkeeper and a tall Donegal man came into the shop and asked the shopkeeper if she had a certain statue of a Saint that the tunnel men carry going down the shaft. She didn't have the statue requested but he purchased another one. He told me he was from West Donegal and I said to him what a credit you are to your faith and Donegal. These were the type of Donegal men who worked in the Tunnels.

During a very sad time in 2011 when Dad was in the Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, Seán would travel up regularly on the train, walk across from the station and arrive in to him like a whirlwind of craic and life, ignoring the long faces around him - a kindness and support never forgotten. He would be gone then as suddenly as he had arrived. A great man, my uncle Seán, God rest his lovely soul.

It is with a heavy heart to hear the sad sad news that the great Sean O'Donnell has passed. He was a great family friend to us always and one of my late father's (Toddy) best friends and indeed a great friend to my late brother (Monty). He rang me several times after Dad and Mam passed to offer his on-going support and kindness. He was a larger than life character with a great wit and sense of humour. He had endless fascinating stories and knowledge about life. He was a "legend" to us. A learned gentleman with compassion and empathy for all. My sincere condolences to Peggy and all the family on their sad loss. He will be greatly missed. Rest in Peace now Sean with the Angels.
You are in good company.
