My heartfelt sympathies to you, Amy, and to your children and grandchildren, as well as to all Shay's relatives.
As a former CC & youth director in St. John's, I have fond memories of the selfless dedication Shay showed as basketball coach in the youth clubs of our Cathedral parish 50 years ago!
But he (with the undoubted support of you, his family) and other tireless dream-makers, went on to greater things through all the years since to give courage, hope and empowering skills to so many!
A great welcome is his due on high. May his peace and joy there attend you now and always, as ever before.
Restricted as a 77 year old , I could not celebrate at his obsequies. Be assured I have offered Mass for him & for all of you for many days since his going to God. RIP.

To Amy and family. We were so sorry and saddened to hear of Shay's passing. Shay was a big part of our youth and early adult lives. As a basketball club we had great times together, many laughs and weekends away when we were playing in tournaments and the odd foreign trip. These times were the beginning of friendships that have lasted throughout the years. Great memories that are still with us all.

It is with immense sadness that we have learned of the passing of Shea. He was really one of the good guys on this earth. He made it his mission to bring happiness into the lives of children who have been touched by illness or disability and indeed to their families. He brought so many smiles & peals of laughter. He encouraged children to believe that dreams really do come true and indeed made so many of their dreams come true. We will always remember the lovely evening we had in 2013 at Clontarf Castle, when our daughter won a Share A Dream Child Of Courage award and the magical trip to Disneyland Paris with Shea, Ciara, all the children and their families. Shea was a hard-working, kind and generous person with a heart of gold . Sincere condolences to his wife and family on their great loss. He and his treasured colleague Ciara must surely be surrounded by many beautiful little angels as they sit in the garden of Heaven, enjoying a well-deserved rest

Sincere sympathy Amy to you and all of your family on Shay's untimely and sad passing. Shay was a wonderful friend to the Mary Immaculate College community and was an inspiration to our early childhood and primary teaching students during his many visits with Ciara to our campus. We were frequent visitors to Dreamland, where we always received a hundred-thousand welcomes and Shay generously and tirelessly shared his dream of creating a space where all children could enjoy and benefit from the magic of play. We will miss Shay dearly but know that himself and Ciara will always be with us as we continue to advocate for all children to have the right to play. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis. Emer Ring
