So sorry for the loss of Simon. Even for those of us that did not know him well, you could tell he was such a gentle and good person. I worked with him briefly in Portiuncula when he was a locum medical registrar. I met him recently again at a course and was shocked to hear of his sudden death a few short weeks later. So sorry for Amy and all his family and friends. There are no words.
— Clíodhna Ní Mhurchú, Galway
To Amy, Anne, Shane, Kate, and the entire extended family, with love.

I was deeply saddened by the sudden loss of Simon. He had so much charm and wit, and he was such a fun-loving soul. Amy and Simon shared an immense love, seeing how they looked at each other, laughed with and at one another was so joyful to be around. Knowing Simon has made me a better person, and he has had such a positive impact on my life.

May cherished memories bring comfort during this difficult time, and may you find strength in each others support.

We'll miss you Simon.
With love, Anna and Jan xxxxxx

What an absolute honour and privilege to have known Simon. I've met this extraordinary human during the International Health studies in Berlin, where I got to know Simon not only as a brilliant classmate, but also as a dear friend. There are so many countless memories that come to mind, when I reflect and reminisce on the time we spent together. The most recent was in April of this year, when we visited him and Amy in Galway. I feel so incredibly lucky to have many remarkable shared experiences both with Simon and with Amy. Thank you for these treasures, I will cherish them forever.

I was, and am still deeply upset to hear about his sudden passing. Grief has been difficult to process and understand, but has been a powerful teacher. My deepest and most heartfelt condolences to dear Amy, Anne, Shane, Kate, and many others who hold much love for dear Simon. My heart aches with you all in these coming times. Simon has taught me so many things, and I will surely be reminded of him in many aspects of life. He is loved by everyone he crossed paths here in Berlin, and his curious and selfless spirit will continue to be celebrated in our cherished memories.
— Rumi Ito
I had the pleasure and honor to share with Simon during our studies in Berlin and he definitely left a huge share of awesome memories in the short time we spent together.

His loving and caring soul lights up everyone's life with his awesome jokes and happy personality.

This unfair and premature departure from this plain leaves a huge void in all of us who knew him. To his love one's, my deepest condolences and I wish you the much needed strength to bare together through these dark and difficult times.

Simon, your joy and exceptional smile will always be remembered.
— Ernesto Negrin
My heart goes out to all of Simon's family and friends. I met Dr. Simon when he was doing his GP training. As a patient I found him to be a most courteous doctor with such a polite manner. He showed me such kindness and compassion at a time that I was struggling with my mental health and life in general. It's such an incredible loss to his family, medical colleagues and friends. May his soul rest in peace with his Dad in heaven and may he be generously rewarded for all the good deeds he performed in his past life.
— Patient
My deepest sympathy to Simon's family. I had the pleasure of studying in Trinity with Simon and then working together with him in Tullamore and St James. I have fond memories of his excellent cooking and serving us homemade pizza! Simon was always so kind and considerate and had time for everyone, he was the first to offer a helping hand. RIP.
— Audrey Reynolds
I had the great privilege of meeting Simon while studying in Berlin (during an International Health course). He became a good friend during this period and I am so grateful for the time I got to spend with him.

Simon was incredibly kind and gentle. He was always beaming with sincerity and with presence. He had a very gracious way about him. He was smart and curious, sharing the latest interesting facts or stories he had just learned, but always in the most humble and genuine way. He didn't take himself too seriously and was open-minded, witty, and always up for a good laugh. I will miss his chuckle, silliness, and smile. I always admired the passion and determination he brought to everything he did, whether a new hobby or his profession as a doctor. He seemed truly engaged and happy with what he was doing and genuinely motivated by helping people. He was compassionate and bright and so lovely.

His loss is very challenging to accept. Such a beautiful soul gone too soon who will be dearly missed. For his family and for Amy, I cannot imagine the grief you must feel. I send you my deepest condolences. Please know you are in my heart. And please know that Simon has left a firm imprint my heart. I will cherish my memories of him and aspire to live a little more like him, radiating kindness, presence, and love.
— Dominika Wanczyk

I am thinking of Dr. Simon's fiancee Amy, his mother Ann, brother Shane and the extended Gubbins family at this most difficult time. I met Dr. Simon in the Athenry surgery and found him to be an excellent doctor with so much compassion and empathy. What a loss to the medical profession and all his patients. I am so saddened today to hear of Simon’s passing in October. My heartfelt condolences and thoughts with all his family, fiancée and friends. Simon loved his job and it showed through his time when I was a patient of his whilst he worked in Athenry. He was so down to earth and he really cared about his patients well being. Rest In Peace Simon, gone way too soon. He was the best Doctor I ever attended. 🕯

Dear Amy, dear Family,

My deepest condolences for your loss.

I had the pleasure of studying with Simon in Berlin in 2018/19 for the tropical medicine and public health courses. I fondly remember those good times, going out & enjoying Berlin nightlife, climbing/bouldering and practising his german, going to the turkish market at kottbusser damm, and just simply spending time in the lovely group of friends we had there.
Apart from his awesome personality I was deeply impressed by Simon's great medical knowledge and skills and his generalist doctor's attitude.
Simon, you will be missed.

Obwohl du zu früh gegangen bist, hast du unser Leben so viel reicher gemacht - Danke dafür!

Mein herzliches Beileid,
Fritz

Dearest Anne, Shane, Amy and Kate,

One of my last memories of Simon - and a lovely one - was performing a song together for Albert and Charlotte's wedding. Our attempts at rehearsing on Zoom with bad wifi weren't very successful, but on the day Simon totally pulled it off.

This quiet gentleman will be missed so much by all of us in the Wexford crew.

My deepest and heart-felt sympathy to you, Anne and to Shane, also to Simon's grandmother Ciss and his fiancée Amy, plus Shane's fiancée Kate, on your unbelievable and sudden loss of your beloved Simon.
I remember Simon and as a young boy, coming out to us at home, in Paradise on calls, with his lovely, late Dad Dan, (Vet Surgeon), whom we Tracey's held in the highest regard.
From all of the wonderful comments here, there is no doubt that Simon was an absolutely, outstanding Doctor. Nothing surprises me about that, given his great lineage.
May you have the brightest light to heaven of your soul, Simon.

Eileen, formerly from Paradise.
