We would like to extend our sincere sympathies to the O'Carroll family at the loss of Sister Columba, an icon of her times that I had the pleasure of meeting on many occasions when my Mom (Beatrice) visited Betty.

You can shed tears that she is gone, or you can smile because she lived. You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back or you can open your eyes and see all that she left. Your heart can be empty because you can't see her or you can be full of the love that you shared. You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember her and only that she is gone or you can cherish her memory and let it live on. You can can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back or you can do what she would want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

May Sr. Columba now rest in Eternal Peace
— Jean and Brian Foley London

— Cathriona Greene
I am so sorry to read of the passing of Sr Columba. I knew her so well as a child when my father was one of the doctors in the maternity unit in Ardkeen. I will always remember the esteem my late father John Phelan held for Sr Columba and how professional she was. Sr Columba definitely had the measure of him and they made a great team. My memory is much more of her smile and how she always remembered us when we visited the unit.

My deepest sympathies to the O'Connell family and to the Mercy sisters she was a very special woman.
— Suzanne Phelan
