Dear Eily, a beautiful and gentle soul, tiny with a big heart, beloved by all who knew her. We will miss your smiles, laughter and your joy of life.
You only had little legs but they carried you to so many places in doing God's work. First to Roma in Lesotho, then Lebowa, Grobersdal, Elandskop in South Africa, Skelmersdale in England, Darndale and Portlaoise in Ireland. Finally to retirement in Newbridge. We won't mention all those people who struggled to cope with your 'walks' over the hills.
Sincere appreciation to the Holy Family community for your love, friendship and care for Sr. Ellen, over many years and for all your care for Sr, Ellen's extended Butler family. Also thanks to the nurses who cared for her in her in her final weeks.
Sleeping now in God's loving arms, a rest well earned. R.I.P.

Rest in peace, Sr, Ellen--or Aunt Eily to us. My favorite memory was when she visited us in America. On a quiet afternoon, we all watched "The Princess Bride" on TV. Aunt Eily laughed from start to finish. I must have seen that movie 10 thousand times, but was never so funny as with Aunt Eily. Her laugh was hilariously contagious and I hope everyone who misses her can hear that laugh in their minds from time to time. God rest you, Aunt Eily.

It was with great sadness I heard of the passing of Sr Ellen, a gentle little lady. During one of our chats when she lived in Portlaoise we discovered we both could spent time "foostering", which highly amused her. My sympathies to her family and Holy Family Sisters Newbridge. May she rest in peace.
— Joan Croke Portlaoise
Thank you Eily for all the joy you brought to us throughout your life and how proud you made us feel with your missionary work mainly in Lesotho and then South Africa. Many thanks to the nurses who cared for Sr Ellen in her final weeks (including Nuala and Orla) and to Sr Colette who kept us up to date. A special thanks to Sr Esther Delaney who has been a lifelong friend to Ellen and been a great support to the family in recent years, it has really been appreciated.
Heavy rain last night could signal Covid claiming Ellen but more likely tears of joy from heaven that they finally get to meet someone who did so much of God's work on Earth.
