I only heard yesterday of the sad passing of Sr Rita
I write to offer my sincere sympath to the Ursuline Sisters amd the Condon family.
Gussy, as she was so fondly known, had a big influence on all our lives as Ursuline students, and we were very lucky to have encountered her during our years spent there. She was a kind and caring lady, who taught us how to participate with great dignity in the musicals, the orchestra and of cosrse the choir. A terific lady overall.
I remember her with great fondness.
The heavenly choir will have to up it an octave this Christmas.
R I P Sr Rita.
— Marjie Gannon nee Clifford
So sorry to hear that beloved Sister Rita has died. She was a wonderful mentor to us and had a huge influence on so many more people than she ever realised. May she now enjoy a well earned rest following a life well lived
— Evelyn Corby
So much remains yet unsaid about this amazing lady. At one time, the imperious Mother Superior of the Convent and Head of the Boarding School; at the same time, the encouraging, technically-specific singing mentor and orchestra conductress; at yet another time the encourager; yet the ‘Hmmph!’-expressing, shoulder-turning, glint-eyed Cork woman (only just); and the mirth-filled woman at the UCT musicals in more recent years. We were very lucky to have encountered Gussy and to have had her in our lives. Very fondly remembered. May Gussy go gently and triumphantly. All best wishes, condolences and memories to her family and the UCT community.
— Fiona FitzGerald, Waterford

I have only just heard of the passing of beloved Sr.Rita. Sr.Rita was an absolute treasure and I loved to see her coming down the corridors in the boarding school not knowing what hilarity the encounter would bring. It is because of Sr.Rita that I learned how to play the French Horn and she really nurtured whatever bit of musicality I had. My deepest sympathies to her family and the Ursuline Convent family.

I remember “Gussy’s” beaming smile as she welcomed me to the Green Room for folk group practice way back in 1974. I was one of 3 guys, Mick Mcloughlin and John Doran being the other 2. Her encouragement has been a source for my continuing love of group/ choral singing. Her gentleness and quick whit and determination to get things just perfect made making scared music cool. But she also encouraged us with efforts in contemporary music competitions to far flung places like Aherlow House. We sang. Spancil Hill to the tune of Ghost Riders in the Sky and Buddy Holly There you go Babe. So many others to mention now. Thanks Gussy ( for that’s how I knew you) for your kindness , then and over the years.
My most sincere condolences to the Ursuline Community and to Sister Rita’s family and friends
