Deeply saddened to hear of Sylvia's passing and sympathies to her family whom she loved so very deeply. As a young woman, I formed a strong bond with Sylvia when I first met her some 40 years ago and I learned a great deal from her about the values of courage, integrity and generosity of spirit in dealing with the world as we find it. I revered her greatly, as did all who ever had the privilege of knowing her.
— Veronica McDermott
My memories of Sylvia are of the fights she undertook, some lost and some won and how much Ireland will miss her voice. Deepest sympathies from a very dear friend and work colleague. May you rest in peace.

A wonderful lady. She did so much good for so many in difficukt times in Ireland in the1960/70's and 80's and helped Ireland change its laws on so many Human Rights issues. Well done Sylvia may you now rest in pease. You have left your mark on the people of Ireland. We will never forgot you and I personally will not.
