It was with a profound sense of sadness that I learned, late last night, of the passing of Tommie Bowe. I met Tommie in 1965 when he worked as a barman in Skehans, Thurles. He was more than a colleague, he was a true friend, who never ever let another down, and an absolute gentleman. On arrival, every morning to work , Tommie's opening salutation wasn't 'good morning, or how are you today? but 'I'm utterly exhausted '. That was his daily mantra and of course we knew that he was just having fun with us. He was an excellent barman and Kathleen Skehan R.I.P. always knew that her business was in safe hands while Tommie was in charge.
Once Tommie moved to Dublin we lost track of one another but his cousin, Josephine always kept me up to speed with what was going on in his life. I have, among my treasures, a beautiful photograph of Tommie taken on my wedding day.
My deepest sympathy to his sisters, brothers, Aunt Mary, nieces, nephews, cousins and all other relatives and friends who mourn the passing of a dearly loved brother, nephew, uncle, cousin and friend to so many. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
