I was so sorry to hear about Thomas' death. I read his posts on Boards countless times, read his blog many times (and loved the irony of its title) and met him at races a couple of times. He was a gentleman through and through. Deepest sympathy to his family and loved ones. I wish you strength and support as you learn to live with your grief
— Conor Brady, Co Wexford
My condolences to Thomas’s family and friends. I did not know Thomas personally but as a runner originally from Ireland living in the US with an active blog for many years, Thomas often commented on my posts with support and humour. By chance I read about his tragic passing this morning and have been re-reading many of his blog posts throughout the day. Thomas touched the lives of many people both near and far, and I hope that in time this is a comfort to his loved ones.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the tragic passing of Thomas.
A real gentleman and family man which of course was one of the reasons to leave Killorglin and Fexco.
He never forgot any of us ladies on valentines day, when he came around to all of our desks with chocolates,

Thomas and the late Mike Cronin walked side by side with me to the Manor on the day I was Leaving Fexco knowing full well that I had a terminally ill family member who only had days to live and I needed support.
Thomas very kindly invited me to his leaving party, which I was not going to miss, even though I had a very special reunion occasion in UCC earlier on that day.

Thomas never failed to support any school fundraising event at Glounaguillagh school Caragh Lake.
He was always up for the craic, and what enjoyment he got from our day out at Cappanlea in 2011 when the great John Alan presented him with a medal made from a chocolate biscuit wrapped in tin foil hanging from bailer twine.
He was lapping us on the course events so he well deserved a medal.

Our sincere sympathies to you Niamh, Lukas, Shea, Cian, & Maia. To his father, brothers, sisters, father in law, mother in law, brothers in law, sister in law., to his work colleagues, running community, neighbours, relatives and many many friends ,to the extended Bubendorfer and Swan famlies both here and in Austria .

May Thomas rest in peace

I was shocked and upset to hear about Thomas's sudden passing. I was an avid fan of his running blog, and met him and saw him at races over the years. He was an inspiration to many including myself, writing so honestly and eloquently and a family man at heart. All of us who do ultra running are aware of the sacrifices our families make to support us doing something we love and he tragically passed away doing something he loved, being on holiday with his family and running. My sincerest condolences to Niamh, to his children and Thomas's family both here and in Austria. Rest In Peace Thomas, you will not be forgotten.
