Deepest sympathy to the Kinsella family on the passing on the Thomas. Himself and Elenor were great neighbours when they lived in Glenmacnass. I was their postman while they were in Glenmacnass.

Dear Sara, John, and Mary,
Tom will be sadly missed not only by his family and friends but by all who have read and studied his wonderful poetry.
Having worked on his poetry as a critic and a translator for almost fifty years and having enjoyed his and your dear mother's friendship, I also feel cruelly bereaved.
But I trust he will live on long after the end of our days. This is the privilege of great poets and scholars -- for we must not forget the legacy of his translations from early Irish ..
In this, I hope you may find some comfort no matter how bitter are the times you are going through.
— Donatella Abbate Badin
With deepest sympathy to Sara, John and Mary and your families - and to all who knew and loved your father and his extraordinary work.

Deepest sympathy to Sara and all the Kinsella family on the passing of your Dad and Grandad . Your personal loss is great but it may be some comfort to know that he will be missed by many readers who have been inspired by his words over the decades. I knew him as a lover of the City of Dublin of which he is a Freeman and also as a lover of the Public library through which his voice will continue to be heard and inspire others in the future. May he rest in peace.

To Sara, John, Mary and all the Kinsella family please accept my deepest sympathies on Tom's passing. I fondly remember my former English teacher 'Dracula' (in O'Connells CBS) scolding me in the following way: 'Now mark this Holohan you are sitting in the same seat which Thomas Kinsella sat in and I hope this will have have some effect and improvement on your English' . Thomas gave us the wonderful Tain and with Sean O'Tuama the Duanaire, two monumental books in Irish literature. His own poetry about Dublin, 'Blood and Family' has for a long time seeped slowly into the souls of 'us Dubs'. I am sure he is enjoying a good lively discussion somewhere in the ether with Eleanor and his late brother the composer John. Sparks flying. Rest in peace Tom.'Home art gone, and ta'en thy wages.'
— Michael Holohan
Sincere condolences to all the Kinsella family.

Dear Sara and Family, I was saddened to hear of Tom’s death so soon after Dermot’s (my husband) in June last. Dermot often spoke with admiration of, and affection for, Tom since their early days in First Year in O’Connells School and of happy times spent together and onwards into their twenties. Grief is painful. I will remember Tom, Eleanor and the family in my prayers. Lesley Doggett.

Memories go back over 70 years to tea time in "86" Stephen's Green, eavesdropping on one of the best raconteurs, delight at the renewing of friendship in Percy Place and a deep sense of sadness at the passing of a remarkable man.

Sara, John, Mary and all the Kinsella family. I was so very sorry to hear of the death of Tom. I had the privilege of filming Tom and Eleanor for the RTÉ Doc in 2009. Spending time with both of them at their home in Philadelphia and then filming in Wexford and Dublin was an exceptional experience for me. As we all became friends it was a tradition that we would all meet up every May for tea and a chat in Saras home. These are wonderful memories. As I got to know Tom I persuaded him to let me take some photos of him at work in Booterstown and was able to do some portraits as well. We were hoping to do some more sessions, but unfortunately Covid and fate intervened. It is often said by people on the death of a man that “he was a poet and a gentleman.” In Tom’s case this is absolutely true.
— Michael Lee

How could we ever forget the beautiful Summer of 1976 when Thomas and Eleanor set their tent to the back of our new house in An Ghráig as Thomas and Seán Ó Tuama trashed out An Duanaire- Poems of the Dispossessed. Great arguments and airy times we had then. Fear imeasc na bhfear ab ea Thomas Kinsella and, as they used to say in the Blasket Islands, " trócaire sa chré go raibh aige." To Sara, Mary, John and the rest sincere sympathy to you all.
