We were shocked to hear the very sad news yesterday 26th July that our cousin Tom Pomphrett died last month. Our sincere condolences and prayers are with all of the Pomphrett family at this sad time. Mass will be offered for the repose of his gentle soul.
— Mary and Des Madden and Fr Ronnie
Deepest sympathy to the Pomphrett family. I had the pleasure of working alongside Tom at the LRC for many years and always admired his enormous ability and wisdom. He also had a great sense of humour and carried his crosses with great spirit. The almost last time I met him was at the bottom of a steep stairway leading to a party on the 1st floor of a pub. After I asked him if he wanted any help up the stairs, he asked me with a grin “Are you going to carry me up!” Above all else, Tom was a genuinely nice guy.
— Brian McGinn

While we did not meet in recent years his great contribution to labour relations was known to me and other past pupils. He has left a great legacy which will be passed on by all who knew him. It is very difficult to understand the resilience he had ,particularly over the last years since the death of your mum. May he rest in peace.

Sincerest sympathies to his daughters Emma and Laura and the extended Pomphrett family on Tom's passing. It was our good fortune in Iarnrod Eireann in my time to have in the LRC one of the best mediators in the business to help us solve, what many considered to be intractable problems when negotiating major change in the organisation. Tom was highly respected in the business and a man of great integrity. Always helpful and looking for the compromise but tough to deal with when he had to be. May he RIP.

A great friend and colleague for almost 40 years, we soldiered together as 'Court Clerks' in the Labour Court and for many years in Conciliation. We had fun both in and outside work through travel, golf and other nefarious activities. His straight, common-sense logical approach to Industrial Relations and his intuitive ability to get to the heart of a problem and resolve it made him a true legend in his field. I will miss his presence at our gatherings and can only offer words of consolation to Emma, Laura and his beloved wider family. May he rest in peace. 'Mr Pomphrett has become unavailable'.....R
— Raymond McGee, Labour Court & LRC

We even went to the World Cup in France and other places.! He was a friend and trusted colleague , a source of advice and occasional criticism...colleagues will know this. He was a loyal and valued friend and his contribution to dispute settlement enormous. He will be missed.

My deepest sympathy to the extended Pomphrett Family on the passing of Tom. His calm and measured approach to Labour Relations in his role as mediator between Bord Gais Group of Unions and Bord Gais Management was a lesson in how to obtain consensus and agreement when it often appeared unachievable. Tom was held in the highest regard by workers and held the respect of all parties as he displayed ingenuity , impartialness , fairness and pragmatism in playing a significant role in resolving disputes between workers and their employers.
