Comhbhrón ó chroí do Lee, d’chlann agus d’mhuintir Tom. I was Tom’s sidekick in “Big Swinger” (1989). It was my first time to work on a film. He gently advised and kindly mentored me through what was a personal and professional highlight of my life. I subsequently had the honour of welcoming him and working with him on RTÉ Drama On One. May he rest easy. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam. Le buíochas agus ómós - Kevin.

My deepest sympathy to the Hickey family. I met Mr Hickey (Tom) when I was a child in the early 70’s when the Riordans was at its height in Cork Airport with my family. I plucked up the courage to ask him for his autograph which he kindly gave me, but to my amazement he asked if I would like the casts autographs and he took my book and got them all to sign it for me and duly posted it back. I will never forgot the kindness he showed to me and the trouble he went to. I still cherish the memories and the autographs. May he rest in peace.

Tom had a way of making everyone he worked with feel important. If he met you out anywhere he would give a great booming "Ahhh!!!" of recognition and always, always, give you his time. He loved details in his props, but he was lethal with them. He would break anything and everything he touched onstage (particularly if he thought he could get a laugh out of it). To this day if we have to reinforce something to withstand rough treatment onstage we say we are making it "Hickey proof".
Love always from The Minister for Candles

May I offer my sincere sympathies to the HIckey family on the death of their dad. I am sure that I am not alone in saying how important Tom was to the people of Ireland in the late sixties and early seventies when he strode large as life into our homes every Sunday night.
