Sincere sympathy to Roisin and family on the passing of Tommy from Ciaran and Irene Keenan.

I saw Tom’s picture in the Irish Times today (from India). The photo is fresh and bright as I have always seen him. Naturally, I don’t know how he got on in the last ten years, whether his smile was continuous in the twilight years of life. I last saw him after the Louth-Meath debacle in 2010 walking away from the grounds. He was looking downwards and mentioned whether he would ever see them win again. I knew I was numbed by the match, but seeing Tom, my feelings seemed a little dry in comparison knowing his genuine love and involvement for Louth and football.

It was always a jolly engagement. He was forever smiling and genuine. In athletics, his love was for the sport itself and all who were involved, including us running in a black singlet representing Dunleer. His joy included us. When his joy is that inclusive, I looked, I took it in, and questioned that value. I still question it for myself knowing how it is such a natural experience and expression for someone like Tom.

At football matches, I have enjoyed all the Mulholland sandwiches and have not repaid any. The company was always vibrant. The results were always …….., but the matches still enjoyable.

Take care James and much love to you and your family which now includes at least two grandchildren which you added to Tom's clan.
