Sincere condolences to the Kennedy family on the passing of Timmy. Highly intelligent and knowledgeable person who had a passion for teaching and wanting the students to learn for themselves. A very nice man outside of the classroom also who would often stop for a chat. It's fair to say that he gained greater respect for his academic, sporting and modernized teaching methods as the students went on to become men after 2nd level school. May he rest in peace.

Very sorry to hear this sad news. Tim was a great teacher, not just for his enthralling descriptive accounts of "Toraiocht Diarmuid agus Grainne" in Irish class, where he brought brilliant old irish folklore to life and kept it interesting for short attention span students like me, but because, like Fionn MacCumhaill, he had incredible knowledge and wisdom regarding many interesting and varied topics. I remember him bringing in a tape of Leonard Cohen and playing it to us. In fairness, Tim explained that 'you have to be in a certain mood to listen to the great poet and singer'.😊 It was lost on most of us then but, boy, how I can still remember it now, and how right Tim was. He also brought us out one lunchtime playing rugby, which was brave in a very hurling prioritised school. That small lunch break game got me playing and loving the game for years after. Very interesting man and passionate teacher that shall be missed by many. Most importantly, my condolences to his wife and family at this very sad time.

Sincere condolences to Tims family and friends. As a former Callan CBS student I experienced Tims passion for the Irish language, and his ability to bring his lesson to life capturing the the minds of his class. For me he brought Irish to life to such a level that i can still converse in it 43 years after leaving the CBS. It is with great sadness I now learn of his sudden passing, and cherish my memories of Tim. May he rest in peace.
— Pat Morris, Abu Dhabi, UAE
Saddened to hear that this exceptional teacher has left us, though I'm sure he's in a better world, where he will assuredly meet some of his departed former colleagues who taught at the secondary school in Callan over the decades.

He had a special devotion to the Irish language, but he taught other subjects too, I recall, including history and geography and he made the Christian Doctrine class brighter and more informative by bringing his extensive knowledge of current affairs and keen grasp of theological and Geo-political issue to bear.

He had a huge interest in cinema and the works of Shakespeare. Those who knew him will have much more to say, but I remember him as a teacher who went out of his way to help the class. When he taught history, the often intimidating or off-putting pages of the past came alive... thanks to his ability to capture the great ebb and flow of civilization with graphic and accessible language.

He always found the most apt image or metaphor to bring bygone happenings right into the classroom, so that, to coin a phrase from his beloved world of cinema, us pupils sitting at our desks (or day-dreaming) trying to figure it all out could see the past in "Glorious Technicolor.."

I remember Tim Kennedy as a man who excelled in his profession and for whom teaching was not just a job or a chore, but his special calling in life. The world has lost a decent teacher and human being.
