"A true teacher doesn't teach you to think like him, but to think without him" (Tariq Ramadan). When I think of Mr O'Reilly, I think, passionate about teaching, compassionate, funny, calm, approachable, giving. He gave us photography every Wednesday... & then the Young Scientists came along 1994/5. What an experience, with his support I learned how to work in a group, work alone, help others (other groups), comradery, lots of laughter & a love of research began. It is one of the greatest, special & rewarding times of my life. One which we still talk about regularly; of how Mr O'Reilly sometimes had to beg us not to come in one weekend or to go home & take some time out! Mr O'Reilly initiated in me a passion to find the why & how of life & recently I found my way back to my passion; in 2012 to study psychology & after that to do a research PhD. I am eternally grateful to Mr O'Reilly for this love of research, for his time, for his belief in all of us students, & to Mrs McCormack for supporting him in giving us so much of his time (sorry about the honeymoon!). I am also proud to be able to share with my own students, what Mr O'Reilly thought me that teaching is about, helping them to build belief & confidence in their own abilities. Mr O'Reilly, we thank you for every moment of your time that you gave us. We are the people we are today because people like you & Mrs McCormack & our other teachers in the comp believed & invested in us. Thank you, Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
— Orla Mooney
