Heartfelt condolences to Fionnuala, Aoife, Fionnuala, Naoise and all the extended family on the loss of dearest Ultan/Todd at this very sad time. Remembering so many wonderful unforgettable times, nights out and nights in with the kindest and most welcoming hosts; Todd and Fionnuala and their three beautiful girls. He was a great friend and talked warmly of his friends and of course he delighted in all of the women in his life, his beloved Fionnuala and his three amazing girls, grand-daughters and sisters. You are a wonderful family and wonderful friends; we loved Todd's warm welcoming manner, always putting you at your ease. We loved your great stories and hearty laughs, kind hospitality and friendship, effervescence and warm wit and deep radio dj type voice, we loved the way he was both a great story teller and a great listener. He thought the world of you all, he told us so. The requiem mass was beautiful and so fitting. We will miss him hugely. We can just imagine him leading some great sessions up there and telling all those funny stories. RIP dearest Todd, Love Jenny, Jack and Eoghan (and Pat was another huge fan!)
— Jenny, Jack and Eoghan

The words I want to say have still not come. So I will start typing and hope that they appear.
Like many I am stunned at Todd's passing. He was a giant of a man, with a personality that could fill a room, a voice that made everyone smile, and a smile that took away the sting of the day. He was a genial man that I was so proud to call my friend. I spent months with him on my first trip to sea, where he was kindness itself, correcting my blundering first-trip stupidity in a gentle way. I was always in awe of his musical ability, and I will never be able to listen to "In the Port of Amsterdam" without hearing his voice singing it in the bar of MV Polydorus.
Fionnuala, I am so terribly sorry for you, and your families sad loss. Your wonderful family really was the apple of his eye, and having met you last week, I can see why.
My thoughts are with you all at this time.
— Allan James

Dearest family, my heart is with you.

As I replay memories of Ultan in my mind, what I hear is a bellowing laugh, the strumming of a guitar, and a passionate lust for life. He was also maybe the only one who could give mom a run for her money on ‘loudest voice in the room’ award. I think my favorite musical memory(ies) is when he'd play the guitar and mom accompanied on the spoons. The music was great, but the glee (from both of them and all of us) was greater.

Ultan, I hope we can all make you proud by loving & living as brightly as you did.
— Naomi Gilbert
My dearest family, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to you all following the passing of our beloved Ultan. I have been thinking about all of you, our memories and the intertwining of our lives... Since my childhood I have always had the image of my 'irish side' represented firmly by my mother and the Todds: powerhouse individuals with hearts of solid gold. Ultan will forever shine threw in this vision. He always had a larger-than-life attitude that would leave an impression on me, no matter the epoch. During family visits, Ultan to me was always a 'protagonist': the only man holding his ground in a group of women, always something hilarious to say or an intriguing story to tell, brushing off gripes like they were nothing and changing thoughts to something lighter and reassuring. He always had a gentle knack for making me feel at ease and joyous. I can hear his voice resonating through the house in Howth, singing along to his guitar playing, I remember looking around and seeing everyone smiling, enjoying the moment... Hijinks and silliness were no strangers to him either, making him all the more colorful to me. In my mind he will forever be a free spirit, the kind that inevitably creates goodness in the world around him, just by being himself. I want to thank you Ultan, for all the precious memories and love you have given me, my family, my cousins, my aunts, everyone. I am sad to see you go, you will be deeply missed by all. We will always have you in our hearts.
— Nathan Gilbert

Dearest Fionnuala, Aoife, Fionnuala, Naoise, Lynda, Ev and Miriam
I am so very sorry for the loss of your beautiful husband dad and brother. I hadn't seen him recently, but the wonderful photo here and in the church made him feel so present, Lynda - you did you brother proud with your stellar speech. I have so many fond memories of when the Todds would all come over to France and we would all go off to the Fete des Loges.
Ultan was full of life and naughtiness, klndness and sensitivity. I can still remember a particular non PC joke he told and it is making me giggle now perhaps to be repeated at a happier time (although I would never do it justice).
These lovely memories of song and laughter are flowing gently through me now.
Thank you Ultan for all you gave and most preciously for connecting me back to your beloved sister Lynda and your beautiful Fionnuala.
With much love
MR
