Deepest condolences to Wesley's family. Had the honour of meeting him several times during my London stint with the Federation of Irish Societies. He was so supportive of the diaspora and attempts to ensure a long-wave radio service, taking RTÉ's commitment to exiles seriously. He was a joy to meet, honest, decent and sincere in all his dealings and an all round gentleman. Go ndéana Dia trócaire ar a anam dílis. May his memory be a blessing.
— Liamy Mac Nally, Westport
Please accept my sincere condolences.

As a student in Trinity with Deirdre years ago, I knew her dad was someone important in RTÉ. What a nice closing of the circle to meet and know Wesley many years later through the association of European journalists. He was held in such high regard by all who knew him. Such a truly decent man. My deepest sympathies to you all.
— Ruth Deasy

A gentleman who always kept his word, whose help in my career was considerable and who was a major support in the development of RTE News in its regional responsibilities. Courteous, enjoyable to be with in professional and social meetings and gatherings and who continued his personal contact in recent years and always had valuable advice to impart. Wesley was of an era in RTE when it was good to be in the Newsroom under his leadership.
— Tom MacSweeney
Sincere condolences to Wesley's family. Wesley was a great newsman who will be remembered for his innate decency.
— Nick Coffey
Wesley (then Irish Times) and his late wife Marion were close friends of my parents in London, along with Donal and Pat Foley. They were members of the Irish Club in Westminster, where they arranged for the paintings of George Campbell & Gerard Dillon to be exhibited in the late 1950s. As a schoolboy aged 8 or so I remember Wesley & Marion joining us during a family holiday in Angmering, Sussex and writing about it afterwards in a story book at school. That childhood memory returned to me while at a station in London last weekend as a train passed by heading for the coast. Some 20 years later in 1979 Wesley became my boss in RTÉ News. He was very fair as a manager and guided the newsroom well during difficult times including the troubles in Northern Ireland, setting high standards for accuracy. He also continued his union membership, becoming an NUJ life member. He enjoyed attending gatherings of the Association of European Journalists and was awarded honorary life membership. My sympathy to all his family.
He lived close to my parents in Dublin and in retirement would keep in regular contact with my father, who had also been an RTÉ executive. Both would often prefer to walk from Mount Merrion into work in Donnybrook. He was of great consolation when my father died nine years ago. Now their 90+ year journeys will converge again as we bid Wesley a final farewell. May he rest in peace.
— Michael Fisher, Belfast & Monaghan
The obituaries will only skim the surface . Wesley Boyd R.I.P. An honour to work for him. Decent honourable man. Magnificent champion of the truth, his colleagues and at corporate level for RTÈ News Division . Laser sharp and gurgling with fun.Missed nothing… remember writing “the very first” only to see the waters part slowly along the newsroom and Director of News stop at my desk to enquire “what other types of first are there?
— Gerry Reynolds
Deepest sympathy to the Boyd family. Wesley was a very approachable, fair and decent boss. He was a very steady hand as Director of News during a turbulent time for this country. He was also very witty company on social occasions.

Deepest sympathy Brian, Joanne, Helen and Deirdre. Growing up we fondly remember your dad as such a gentle, deep and striking figure: his purposeful daily stride from home to the Newsroom; his consumption of vast quantities of newspapers and periodicals; and with Marion - a wonderful book collection, Irish art, sculpture, and of course the Citroën DS.

RIP Wesley.
