Willie was always so friendly to meet. Even though I left Johnstown many years ago, he would greet me on the streets of Kilkenny with a warm smile and cheerful greeting.

Only learnt of Billy's passing this evening. The term "an absolute gentleman" is possibly overused these days but definitely not in Billy's case. I joined the AIMS National Council a few years ago and Billy was nothing other than welcoming to me. He had a great sense of humour but it was always good natured. My sincerest sympathies to all of Billy's family and friends. No doubt he will be sorely missed in Kilkenny Musical Society and in the wider AIMS grouping.

I got to know Billy through the ‘Round the County’ programme on Radio Kilkenny.

Billy was the always reliable and joyful correspondent for Galmoy, Johnstown & Urlingford. While we might have struggled to fit all the news in, Billy always had time for a laugh, along with our late friend, Liam Langrell & the other correspondents.

It is with deep sadness that I learned of Billy’s passing. A thorough gentleman it was my privilege to know in this life. We both shared an interest in making an active contribution to democracy and to advocate on behalf of those; unable to do so themselves; through our membership of Kilkenny County Council and the Labour Party.

My condolences to Hannie, Billy’s extended family and the wide circle of friends, who mourn his loss.
