I am extremely sorry to hear of the death of my old pal Billy the Moon. We were born and reared on Innisfallen Avenue. We were best friends for many tears, We went to dances and ceili together. We went to the movies together, to 'the wan above' and to 'the wan below'. We played pitch and toss together. We bought 5 fags in Dinny Murphy's when we had the money, two and a half for him and two and a half for me. We shared money when we had it. He worked in PJ Hickey's chemists and I was a Telegram Boy. He came to the train station with me on the day in November 1958 when I left Thurles for Wicklow. We wrote to one another even after he went to England, I still have a photo of him in my wallet. My wife and I always visited with his mother whenever we were in Thurles. We lost touch after some years but I did meet him again about 4 years ago. I have been asking after him and I intended to visit with him on my next visit to Thurles. I loved him as there was no better friend. My all time best friend is dead and I am very sad as I was looking forward to meeting with him again. I am extremely sorry to hear of his death and I offer my sincere sympathy to his family.
