It's with deep sadness that we have learned of the passing of Willie. I first got to know him over 50 years ago when both he and Willie Casey were involved in a redecoration job in Cullen National School which spilled over from the Summer holidays into the start of term and we were young squirts making nuisances of ourselves. We got to know him better as the years rolled on, through his involvement with the CYMS along with his late brothers Connie and John. Their distinctive blue sashes being evident at all special Church occasions. He was often seen up a ladder putting up bunting for the Annual Procession. His general good humour and sense of rogueishness endeared him to everybody. His distinctive wide brimmed sun hat marked him out in a crowd. Never shy to give his view, he once advise this scribe to leave church music behind and get into country like "Box Car Willie" which became our private joke. So rest in peace Millstreet s Box car Willie. You will be sorely missed not alone by your family , but by all of us who knew you. RIP
