J. Ray Bates, Ph.D

Former Deputy-Director Met Éireann; former Branch Head, Laboratory for Atmospheres, NASA, Goddard, Maryland; Emeritus Professor of Meteorology, University of Copenhagen and Adjunct Professor of Meteorology UCD (2004 to 2023); peacefully in the tender care of Blackrock Hospice. Beloved husband of Natasha, pre-deceased by his late wife Ziara in 2003 and stepfather of Alex, brother of Trish, Eugene, Billy, Declan, Kathleen, Dick and Margaret. Deeply mourned and sadly missed by his wife, brothers, sisters, stepson, Ziara's daughters Elena and Natasha, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and the extended Bates family in Wexford.

Reposing at Red Gables, Kilmore Quay, County Wexford, Y35 HD00 on Monday the 8th of January from 2 o'clock to 5 o'clock. House private at all other times please. Funeral mass in St. Peter's Church, Kilmore Quay on Tuesday the 9th of January at 11 o'clock followed by burial in Kilmore Cemetery. Family flowers only please donations in lieu of flowers if wished to Our Lady's Hospice and Care Service.
