John Murphy, 90, of River Edge, New Jersey, USA originally from Castleisland, Co Kerry passed away peacefully on May 26, 2024. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Bridget (née Nolan) Murphy (2012). Devoted father of Karen (Patrick) Rafferty, Brendan (Adelina) Murphy, and Margaret McClean. He is the loving brother of his 12 siblings, Michael, Vincent, Joseph, Annette, Patricia, and the late Paddy, Norrie, Margaret, Ellen, Mary, Harold, and Donal. John also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Mairead (Alex), Fiona, Sean, Alisha, and Christopher (Carolina). He is also survived by his treasured great grandchildren, Lucas, Isabella, and Ava, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He will be deeply missed.

 

John was born in 1933 in Castleisland, County Kerry, Ireland to Margaret (née O’Connor) and Patrick Murphy. Immigrating to the United States, he proudly served his country in the United States Army. He then was employed as a Mechanic for the New York City Transit Authority. John was also a devoted member of the Bergen Irish Association and a Parishioner at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church. He was a dedicated, involved, and proud member of his River Edge community.

 

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 29th from 4-8 PM at the Beaugard-McKnight Funeral Home, 869 Kinderkamack Road, River Edge, NJ 07661. Funeral Mass for John will be held on Thursday, May 30th, 10:30 AM at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 445 Fifth Avenue, River Edge, NJ 07661. Interment will follow at Maryrest Cemetery, 770 Darlington Avenue, Mahwah, NJ 07430.
