The death has occurred of

MAUREEN DUGGAN

Carrigaline, Cork / Longford

Maureen Duggan passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and loved ones on September 3rd, 2024. Born to Paddy and Anne Sheridan in Teffia Park, Longford in 1949, she grew up second oldest in a family of twelve brothers and one beloved sister.

She moved to Dublin, met and fell in love with Freddie, whom she married and had Bryan, Aileen, Little Freddie, Caitriona and Seán.

After a bout with breast cancer in the 90’s—an affliction she not only beat, but taunted by making smoking her hobby for thirty more years—she decided life was too short to spend in America. She moved back home to Ireland, where she worked as a computer instructor at St John’s Girl’s National School.

Proud Naggy to Kira, Fiona, Luke and Oliver, who she loved to dote on every chance she could. Her children would like to express a debt of gratitude to her friends and family, especially those in Ireland who cared for her and helped her in so many ways that we will never fully understand—such as giving her lifts to the shops, or including her in their plans, or checking in on her. She had a network of beautiful people who prevented her from ever being fully alone.

In lieu of flowers, and in remembrance of our Mammy, please consider putting on Roy Orbison and dancing around your kitchen, or making your family a full Irish breakfast, or laughing until you cry, or crying until you laugh, or forgiving someone you should have forgiven years ago, or putting a tenner on Ireland to win, or England to lose, or remind those that you love that you love them, while you still can.

Reposing at Forde’s funeral home, Old Waterpark, Carrigaline on Friday (September 6th) from 5.00pm until 6.00pm. Cremation service will be held at The Island Crematorium, Ringaskiddy on Saturday, September 7th at 1.00pm which may be viewed on www.islandcrematorium.ie/services .
