On New Years day, Seán died peacefully at Galway University Hospital with his loving wife Pat and family by his side. Deeply missed by his wife and sons Niall and Eric, brother Matt, sisters Jo and Nuala, daughters-in-law Ruth and Mei and grandchildren Kate, Orla, Aisling and Jade and also by his many nieces and nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Reposing at the O'Flaherty Funeral Parlour, Munster Avenue, Galway (H91V1K8) on Thursday, 4 January from 4 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. Arriving at the Collegiate Church of St. Nicholas, Lombard Street, Galway on Friday, 5 January in advance of a Funeral Service at 12 noon. Private cremation to follow.

Professor Seán served as the Chair and Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at University College, Galway / National University of Ireland, Galway, A visionary leader and distinguished educator who played a pivotal role in establishing the Department of Mechanical Engineering and later spearheading the introduction of Biomedical Engineering to the University which prepared engineers for future employment in the burgeoning medical device industry in the Galway region. Seán shaped the minds of countless students, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation within the realm of mechanical engineering. His profound contributions to the field and the University of Galway have left an indelible mark on both.
