Niall Michael Duggan

 Niall Michael Duggan

Cullencastle, Tramore, Waterford

We, Niall’s mom and step-dad, Mary (Máire) and Paul O'Driscoll, his brother Joe and his sister Sadhbh would like to express our sincere thanks to everyone for the overwhelming expressions of sympathy, acts of kindness and deeds of thoughtfulness over the last year.

Niall died on the 4th of November 2019 aged 25 years and the permanency of his passing presents a daily struggle for us.   To ease this anguish we continually draw on our very rich bank of wonderful memories and stories about Niall the son, grandson, brother, nephew, school and college student and Niall the Garda.

Niall lived his life through a strong set of personal principles, he was renowned by all as a ‘giver’. He gave unconditionally, he was a giver of his time, love, friendship, respect and compassion taking every opportunity to give that special well thought out gift.  Niall gave sincere warm and soothing hugs, his timing was always perfect.  He was forgiving, caring, respectful and he made a difference to the life of everyone he interacted with.  He was disciplined, creative and sometimes daring.

Niall possessed strong personal values; he was loyal to his family, his friends and colleagues he was hugely committed always trying to succeed and be the best, he was reliable and dependable and always supported the vulnerable or the underdog.  Niall abhorred injustices to others by others and had the courage to challenge and speak out about those injustices knowing it was the unpopular but right thing to do.  He had a unique ability to articulate his stance.

Niall and his mom went on frequent ‘mom dates’ to the cinema or out for breakfast, he adored eating out, he travelled extensively the USA was his favourite destination, he was up-to-date with all things gadgetry and was the family IT expert.  Niall loved to be the center of attention and he had a natural ability to make himself the main focus in a crowded room. He made friends easily and maintained those friendships unconditionally.

Niall wanted to serve, to do good and to have a vocational career.  He studied healthcare at first before becoming a Garda based in Cork where for two years he served the local community diligently, he was continually recognised for his human touch and professionalism by victims of crime.

Niall was the perfect son he was a BEAUTIFUL person, he is forever loved by his mom, stepdad, brother and sister.
