It is with profound sadness that the family of Anne Patricia Andrews, late of Edmonton announce the peaceful passing of a beloved mother, grandma, great grandma and friend. She was surrounded by love, family, and her faith. Pat was an inspiration to her family. Her proudest accomplishment was being a mother. She was endlessly devoted to her children and grandchildren. She gave her time and love selflessly. Her resilience through adversity was inspiring; her determination relentless and her courage leaves all who knew her enriched by the hope, love, and humour she shared every day.
Pat will be sadly missed by her three adoring children: George (Gay) of Edmonton, David (Barb) of Edmonton; and Carmel (Kevin) of Calgary. She is also survived by her five loving grandchildren, Meghan (Thomas), Stephanie (Brent), Adelle (Simon), Liam (Sharon) and Riley. Pat was blessed with two great grandchildren Aspen and Maclin. Pat is also survived by her loving sister Carmel (Tom) of France and their families in both France and Ireland as well as many nieces and family in Scotland, Ireland, and Canada. Pat was predeceased by her husband George John Andrews in 2009 and siblings Liam, Maureen, Michael, and Sheila.
She was born in Dublin, Ireland to William and Annie Murphy (Garvey). Pat was an accomplished seamstress in Dublin, embroidering and sewing vestments for many priests. Her Catholic faith was her rock throughout her life. Pat became pen pals with George while he was a heavy-duty mechanic working on the Distant Early Warning System in the Canadian Arctic (Dew Line). When George returned to Ireland, they became engaged and then married on May 18th, 1959. Pat took a leap of faith with George in 1959 and left Ireland for Canada to start a new adventure and life. She embraced Canada but always kept Ireland in her heart. They lived in Edmonton for a short time before moving to Toronto and in 1975 returned to Edmonton where she lived until her passing.
Always a devoted mother, wife, and grandmother her family always came first. After her children gained independence, she returned to work enjoying seventeen years at Woodward’s Southgate where she made many friends. She was easy to talk to and spent many years with the CWL and Quilting Club at St John the Evangelist parish.
