Bernie O’Riordan (née O’Leary): A life of loving people and nature. An incredible mother, doting nanna, and caring human who died at home on December 1st, 2024, while sharing her love with her family and her soul mate, life partner for over forty years, John. Surrounded by her loving children – Fiona, Catriona, and Anthony – her final days were filled with love and laughter.

Bernie’s kind nature shone through from an early age. She brought a great warmth to those around her and was adored by her parents and nine siblings – Mary, Jim, Nora, Con, Dan, Anne, Gobie, Carmel, and Tim. More recently her greatest joy was playing with her five grandchildren – Sasha, Ailbhe, Felix, Lottie, and Emmie.

She was a natural choice for a life of caring and completed Medicine in UCC. While working in Tralee Hospital, she met John and eventually settled in Cloghroe and then Inniscarra, setting up their practice together first in their home and then in Tower.

From mountainous hikes to daily walks up Garravagh trailed by one or more dogs, she found peace in nature and shared that joy with those around her. She had a great love for literature and was a keen and thoughtful reader of novels and poetry, old and new.

Bernie’s life was rich with meaning, shaped by the natural world, devoted to goodness, and anchored in love for her family. She is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, siblings, and many friends who mourn her loss and celebrate her life.

 

Bernie will repose at Crowley’s Funeral Home Ballincollig (P31 W982) Monday (2nd) from 6.30pm to 8.00pm. Requiem Mass on Tuesday (3rd) at 11.30am in St Senan’s Church Cloghroe (T23 T934) which can be viewed on https://www.churchservices.tv/stsenans
