(née Sweeney)

Bríd Gibbons (née Sweeney) Glengowla Bridge, Oughterard and formerly Sheeaun, Spiddal, Co. Galway, passed away peacefully after a short illness bravely borne, surrounded by her loving family in the wonderful care of Our Lady of Knock Ward, Galway Clinic on the 25th April 2021. Predeceased by her mother Margaret, father Ulick, brothers infant Padraig, Michael and Máirtín and sisters infant Nóirín and Siobhán. Deeply regretted by her loving husband Paddy, her adored children Sinéad, Stephen, Ian and Emily, her much adored grandson Liam, her siblings Colm, Maureen, Steve, Terence, Ulick and Margaret, her Aunt Judy, her brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, extended family, neighbours and friends.

The Gibbons and Sweeney family would like to express their sincere thanks to all of our extended family, neighbours, friends and staff in ICU and Our Lady of Knock, Galway Clinic, for all of their kindness and support at this difficult time. 

Bríd’s funeral cortège will leave her home in Glengowla to arrive at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Oughterard, for Mass at 11 o'clock on Friday, the 30th of April. Burial immediately afterwards in Kilcummin Cemetery. Donations, if desired, to Arthritis Ireland.

Due to ongoing government restrictions and public health guidelines around social gatherings, the funeral will be held privately. In line with the family’s wishes, anybody attending the Mass will be on a list compiled by them to help with contact tracing, as recommended by government guidelines. If you choose to attend the burial or stand in a guard of honour, please maintain social distancing and avoid hand shaking for the safety of all in attendance. Ba mhaith le Clann Mhic Giobúin agus Clann Mhic Suibhne a mbuíochas a ghabhail leis an gclann sínte, le comharsana, le cairde agus le foireann Chlinic na Gaillimhe as ucht an cineáltas agus tacaíocht a taispeánadh dúinn ag an am deacair seo. 

Beidh aifreann na sochraide ar an Aoine 30ú Aibreán ag 11a.m. i Seipéal Uachtar Ard agus cuirfear í tar éis an aifrinn i Reilig Chill Cuimin Uachtar Ard. Síntiúis más mian d’Arthritis Ireland.

Mar gheall ar shrianta an Rialtais agus treoirlínte sláinte an phobail timpeall bailiúcháin shóisialta, beidh an tsochraid coinnithe príobháideach. Maidir le mianta na clainne, beidh liosta curtha le chéile do na daoine a bheidh ag an aifreann chun cabhrú le rianú conartha, atá molta ag an Rialtas.
