Bridget Sweeney (née Goonan, better known as Bridie), Geesala, Ballina, Co. Mayo peacefully at the Mayo University Hospital, Castlebar surrounded by her loving family on 29th March 2026.

Predeceased by her husband David, parents Patrick and Annie and brothers Terence, Jackie and Packie.

Beloved mother of Vera, John, Anita, David and Packie and cherished grandmother to her adored grandchildren Aimee, Josh, Kian, Sarah, Áine, Aoife, Adam, Jake, Seán, Rían, Yvie and Ruth. She will be sadly missed by her heartbroken family, sons in law J.T. and Andrew, daughters in law Anita, Lisa and Marian, sisters Evelyn, Nancy and Sadie, brothers Brian and Mickey, brother in law John Dunleavy, sisters in law Mary Goonan and Vera Hannon, nieces, nephews, relatives, kind neighbours and many friends.

Bridie will lie in repose at McDonnell’s Funeral Home, Belmullet on Tuesday evening from 5 o’clock until 7.30. Funeral will arrive at the Church of St. Colmcille, Geesala on Wednesday for Funeral Mass at 12 noon followed by burial at Geesala Cemetery.

Live streaming of the Funeral Mass will be available for viewing on McDonnell Funeral Directors Facebook page on Wednesday at 12 noon with all other funeral services available for viewing on Wednesday evening at 6 o’clock.

Donations in lieu if desired to ‘Inis Aoibhinn – Cancer Care West’ to be made via the Cancer Care West website or c/o McDonnell Funeral Directors, Belmullet.
