Christine Anne Harte
Christine passed away peacefully at 8.07 PM on Tuesday September 19, 2017 at the age of 74, after a valiant battle with oesophageal cancer. Her husband Trevor, daughter Emma, and sons Christopher and Marc were by her side as she took her last breath in her own bed at home in Kilbrittain. She leaves two teenage grandchildren P. Micheal and George.
Christine’s childhood and early adulthood was spent in Bristol, England. It was here that she first met Trevor Davis, whom she was to reconnect with much later in Ireland. She could be considered a member of what was then called the ‘Clifton Set’-- a bohemian gathering of chefs, painters, sailors, broadcasters, amateur racing drivers, and other oddballs that congregated in the Greyhound Pub on Princess Victoria St. in Clifton, Bristol in the swinging 60s.
Christine, while being always English, and retaining ties to the land of her birth, spend most of her adulthood rooted in the idylls of Irish rural life, and particularly West Cork, from which she could not stray too far.
Local environmental causes, nature photography, rigorous reading, and food were among Christine’s passions, most of which she has imparted in some form or another, in varying degrees, to her children.
The last 22 years of her life were very happily spent with her true love and constant, devoted companion, Trevor Davis, in Flaxfort -- a house they made for themselves overlooking Courtmacsherry Bay. It was their little utopia of organic vegetable gardens, dogs, and chickens.
A brief service and eulogy will be said at the Island Crematorium in Cork on September 22nd at 1PM. The Burren in the Spring was her favourite place to visit and her ashes will be scattered in this enchanted corner of County Clare in the Spring of 2018.
