Sincere sympathies to John's immediate family and all the extended Dunford family and friends.
From the time we went to school together in Castlebar to later meetings at gigs in Clonmel I always regarded John as a true friend, and a gentleman full of craic. I count myself lucky to have known you John and will always cherish the fond memories I have of times in your company. May God bless you my friend.

To John, may God rest your soul. To his family and loved ones, God bless you all and may you be graced with peace and comfort at this time.
Like Carl, I only knew John in a professional capacity. I found John to be honest, genuine and sincere. Rare qualities today. We are grateful to have known him. Thank you John.

So sorry for your loss - our condolences to you, the family, for John's untimely passing.
I only ever met John in a professional capacity, but from the moment we met, I was struck by a warm and sincere man that over subsequent years supported myself and my brother several times when it was only he who could have at that time. And I've never known such promptness and clarity. I regret not getting to know him even better. He left me with such a positive impression I felt compelled to express it. A true gentleman. I'm sorry I didn't seize the opportunity to contact him when I heard of his illness, though he was often on my mind - I will always regret that - I think he taught me something valuable there.
God rest and God bless

Sincere condolences to Chuck and the extended Dunford family on the very sad death of your brother John R.I.P.
My dear friend John, you were one of best friends from my youth. We played football on the Mall in Castlebar and then went down to the Humbert for a rake of pints and music. Castlebar was made alive by you and your brothers music, poetry and laughter. It was truly wonderful to be around you. That aura you had was special and helped us through some bad uisce. Go well my friend. Condolences to your family.
I´m truly heartbroken to hear about John´s passing. Please accept my sincerest and most heartfelt condolences. My association with JD was mainly on the business side but I also consider him a friend and I hope he felt the same...we go back very far. John was my first lecturer at STC in Dublin. I always admired his friendly and caring attitude and he was a great teacher. I hope some of those qualities rubbed off on me.He was certainly a great influence on me at that time. Our paths crossed regularly over the years and then more frequently over the last few years since I became Sharon Shannons booking agent in Germany. We had lots of long phone conversations during the Covid years when there were no shows...one of the few upsides of that time is we had so much more time to chat about everything and he was always a great source of mirth, wisdom and encouragement that things would get better and that we´d would get back on the road again...and we did...RIP John
Very sad for your loss
Sincere sympathy to Hilly and family on the death of John. I worked with him in Brigid’s in Killester for a few years in the 70’s. Such a character and we had so much fun both within and without school. Bhí an craic thar barr i gcónaí. Muinteoir den scoth ab ea é agus fíorchara. Codladh sámh dó i measc ceoltóirí uile na hÉireann. Slán John !
I am so sorry to hear of John's passing, Bernie. I know the rest of John's family don't know me at all. My best wishes are with you all.

Our deepest condolences to Hilly, Becky, Hannah, Kathy, Emily and all extended families, also to Sharon and her band on the very sad passing of John. You were one in a million and we love you to the moon and back. We had a couple of great years with you during lock down. Thanks for organising all the gigs. We know you loved them times as much as we did. As you said to me recently "We were the only people in the country having fun at that time, and I miss it" well so do we John. We will never forget you. Travel on our friend. You will always be with us.
Sincere sympathy to John’s wife and children and all of the Dunford family. I was so sorry to hear of John’s passing and really only knew him through his brother Tom. My deepest condolences to Hilly, Becky, Hannah, Emily & Katy and all of John’s family and many friends, and of course Sharon. It was my privilege to work with John consistently for the past 29 years, since my very first day in music. He was a joy to be around – full of plans and ideas, motivation, encouragement and above all good humour. He was part of the fabric of my life and introduced me to my husband. I simply cannot believe he is gone. I will miss him.
My deepest condolences to all friends and relatives . Big John was amazing and kind man, wicked humour, generous, talented. He will dearly missed in our everyday lives but will remain present in our hearts and minds.
Kind regards

How cruel to have to say good bye to John, but I wish him "bon voyage". For me, he has been the head of the family, and from "John" he became "Big John", indeed! Thank you, John, for all you generosity and kindness, thank you for having accepted me within your family. In communion, I share the deep sorrow of all its members.
I’m very saddened to hear this news.
I worked with John many times with Sharon in Letterfrack and later in RTE Radio any time Sharon passed though. John was always such craic to deal with and got me out of a hole with 2 seconds to spare on a beautiful live Pat Kenny segment in 2005 when they covered Norwegian Wood and one or two guests of the band (but not us) were on the whiskey at 10am. Hilarious morning with the best version of that song I’ve ever heard…
John was such a lovely man and your family have my sincere condolences.

To John's family, so sorry for your devastating loss, to Derval and Chuck, mind each other, R. I. P John
Deepest sympathy to all who loved and were loved by John. The loss of a sibling is like loosing a limb. The passing of a Dad and partner is unbearable in reality. May you all be well supported on your journey of grief and may John’s music play on in your souls, forever.
My sincere sympathy to my friends and former Neighbours Derval and Chuck and to John's wife Hilly and their daughters on his untimely passing. I only met John on a handful of occasions firstly back in the day when he sorted me out with tickets for a long sold out Waterboys gig or often after at many of Sharon's early gigs or when he launched my Bofin Neighbour Desmond O Hallorans Indian Summer .It was a pleasure and privilege to have his company on any occassion but that is true in my experience of all of the Dunford family in the over 40s years that I have known them. John like Tom,Steve and Kevin you were taken far too soon . But in the end its all about the quality of a life and not the measure of it . From the tributes posted here its evident that yours was a life well lived . Enjoy the reunion gig.
I'm sorry for you're loss hannah i hope he died peacfully Take care of you're family and friends

We are all so sorry that your family have to endure yet another devastating blow. When we 1st heard of Johns illness, we had such positivity that John, this, "Big Strong Man," would be able to get through it, as he had such great plans for his future. Reading through all the lovely condolences and messages in the media, it is clear that John Dunford was an even more amazing successful and humble man that we ever realised. To Chuck, Derval, Hilly and all.the extended Dunford family, your hearts are broken but there must have been craic in heaven when all these great Dunford guys met up, lots of music and good stories. Thinking of all of you and sorry that i cant be there to sympathise in person.
Our most sincere sympathies to Chuck, Mairéad and extended Dunford family on the sad and untimely passing of John. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam uasal.
My deepest condolences to John’s family and friends. Nearly 30 years ago, I was working in Westland Studio and John asked me to bring a few mates to a Sonny Condell gig in An Beal Bocht. I gathered a few mates and invited a girl I’d met a few days before in Kilkenny. It was our first date. 30 years later we’re still together and John was the unwitting catalyst. I have a lot to thank John for. May he rest easy.
My thoughts are with Hilly and the rest of the Dunford family on the very sad passing of John. Sincere condolences.
