I taught Des, English and History when he returned to Adult Education with Louth VEC, in the Adult Education Centre on Chapel Street in Dundalk, around 2010. He was a gentleman to teach and told many fascinating stories about what he had seen in his life. I always enjoyed chatting with him. God rest him.

Is is with great sadness that i just heard of Dessie’s passing. Sincere condolences to all Dessie’s family, neighbours and friends.
Dessie and his beloved Margaret were great friends with my mam Kathleen and dad Desmond.
I’ve known Dessie all my life. He was an absolute gentleman and he would be first at your door if you needed help. When we were small Dessie & Margaret would arrive with the biggest Easter eggs we ever saw.
When we were doing exams mam would drive us down to Dessie and Margaret so we could ask them to say a prayer for us.
Dessie was great at giving advice and always had your best interest at heart. I will miss Dessie. May he be reunited with Margaret. Rest in peace Dessie. You were one of the good ones.

Rip Des. Great friend to Pat over the years . Fountain of knowledge and a great man who ran a great business .

I didn't know Des but was a customer in his shop in the later years. What a lovely man. One of those shops you were drawn into because you were sure to get that old school customer service and a lovely chat. The range of stock he held was unreal. Those old world, proper shops, are few and far between now in the town, but glad I had the experience of visiting Des and his lovely wife at their shop at 86 Bridge St, Dundalk. RIP
