So sad to hear the news of Aedan's untimely passing. Deepest sympathy to all his family and friends. RIP
A lovely man. Taken too soon. Sincere condolences from all the Shanahans in Limerick.
For more than a decade now, I've had the pleasure of playing football on Wednesday evenings with Aedan. This gentle, mild mannered man always wore a smile on his face and always asked after my well being. He'd proudly tell me about how his son - Nik - was getting along at University. He gave me the time of day. If I bumped into him out and about in Norwich he would always say hello and exchange pleasantries. Aedan was never in any danger of picking up a Ballon D'or for his football skills but he was a charming, kind soul and I was therefore stunned and deeply saddened to hear of his passing. It doesn't seem quite real that I won't ever again see his rangy figure (clad in yellow Sweden football shirt) stepping confidently out out of defence and - more often than not - giving ball away. It hardly seems fair that Aedan has been torn so cruelly from his family and friends. My heart goes out to his wife and children. I will always remember Aedan fondly and with warmth. I will miss him. Wednesday night football at UEA will never be quite the same.
