I was out of the country when I heard this awfully sad news. I served with Aedh when he was a Cadet on ships and then after he qualified his first appointment was on L.E. AISLING. I had a wonderful year or so with him. He always had a smile on his face, he had a wonderfully positive attitude to life and a great sense of fun and humour. He was great at telling stories, always entertaining. He was a very professional, dedicated and committed Naval Officer. He was a pretty good horseman in his younger days and competed in events all over Ireland. "The life of the dead is placed in the memory of the living" M.T. Cicero - I will always remember him - Ár Dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam, may he rest in peace on heavenly seas.

I taught Aedh in Clogheen, Kerry Pike National School. It was a pleasure. He was a lovely young boy and an excellent scholar.
Frank had him in the Gleann na Laoi boy's hurling club and he was overjoyed to be introduced to the senior Kilkenny hurler no. 9, as his grandfather Jim Hurley wore the no. 9 jersey back in the day!

To Marjorie, Donncha and Fergal. Aedh's parents Phil and Eimer, brother Paudie, sisters Orla and Tint, parents-in-law Michael and Margaret and all the Twomey family I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

I first met Aedh when I was 15 when we were both rowing with Shandon Boat Club. We were great friends from day one. Sharing a similar sense of humour often laughing so hard we couldn't breathe. It was there we perfected the art of pulling a stroke. Something we would continue to do together.

We later both joined the Navy and from that day we stood together. He stood with me on the Parade Ground. He stood with me on the Ship's Bridge. He stood with me on the Alter the day I married Catherine. When I was Captain of LE Aisling and he was Captain of LE Aoife he stood with me upholding Ireland's Sovereignty at sea.

On Wednesday I stood with him for the last time, heartbroken. Honoured to have met him and privileged to have been his friend.

Aedh you have stood your last watch "I have the Ship"

I met Aedh first time during our professional co-operation in 2016, when he was working for Danone Macroom. I have always loved working together with Aedh.

When I was down in Macroom last Wednesday (03/12/2024), i was shocked to hear about Aedh passing.
