Sincere sympathy to the family of Mr Hayes.
Very saddened by this news. I was very lucky to have had Mr Hayes as an exceptional English teacher in Millstreet Community School. He brought English to life and life to English. To this day, I think of him when I see incorrect spellings and apostrophes in public signs. English classes flew. Sincere sympathies to his children and extended family. He often spoke of you in his classes.
Aidan was so unique and stood out with his red hair and beard.Such a great help when we were starting the twinning of Pommerit and Millstreet in the 1980’s.He was a true poet and gentleman.

May you rest in eternal bliss. For one who had your acquaintance I wish your beautiful soul continued blooming.
Aidan and I met as classmates at UCD studying for our masters degrees. We quickly became friends. Over the years we were able to visit each other whenever he was in New York or I was in Dublin or Millstreet.
For reasons unknown (or due to many pints and a few baby powers) we began addressing our letters to Mr. Celtic Hayes and Mr. Mickey Goldenlites.
During the period of "Dallas and Who Shot JR" he took it upon himself to buy himself an honest to god black Stetson cowboy hat. He gifted it to me at the end of our UCD year: "When will I ever wear this in Dublin? They'll think I'm mad!" I wore it at my wedding to my gal from Texas seven years later and I have it still.
Words to describe Aidan- intellectual, deep, talented, zany (a cowboy hat?!), and ever in awe of the word and of the world.
Godspeed my friend.
Rest in peace, Celtic Hayes.

Claire, Gerard and Cormac, please accept my deepest sympathy on the death of your brother, Aidan, and my apologies for not being with you this weekend as I would have wished. I very much enjoyed our literary correspondence over many years. Aidan would send scraps of verses with the germ of an idea and also complete poems which were very accomplished and moving. He was receptive of suggestions (from this non-poet) and always responded graciously with his signature sense of humour. He was a skilled translator from Irish (Máire McEntee said Aidan’s was the truest translation of a poem of hers) and French. Richesses (2008) a dual language publication of Francophone Songwriter Poets which Aidan edited and translated, is a beautiful book which demonstrates Aidan’s skill as a poet as well as his mastery of both French and English. Aidan used his sense of humour to mask his erudition and was great company. Rest in peace, cousin.
Sincere sympathy Gerard to you and all the Hayes family on the sad passing of Aidan. I remember him as being a most interesting, scholarly gentleman.

My deepest sympathy to Ingrid, Stephan, Marie-Ghislaine, Mary and Ger, and Claire and all those who loved Aidan. We worked together in the Catholic Youth Council, and trained together for a while in France. Over the years since, we met sporadically, but it was as if, when we met, no time had passed, because he never changed! Always the same funny, zany personality who amused and challenged at the same time. A true artist and an unforgettable personality.
Condolence to Aidan’s family

Aidan Hayes, my late husband, Jim's, childhood friend wandered in and out of my life in the 1980s and 90s Aidan, along with Ingrid and Stefan, were summer visitors to our house in Listowel. Lovely memories of trips to Ballybunion and the bog. For years Aidan regularly sent long letters, poems and Christmas cards, always well crafted and entertaining and written in his beautiful hand. He was a gifted writer. Aidan was one of a kind. Everyone who came within his orbit was enriched by the encounter. Go dté tú slán, a chara. Go gcloise tú ceol na naingeal go síoraí. My condolences to Ingrid, Stefan and everyone who is in mourning for Aidan.
Sincere sympathy to all the Hayes family on the sad passing of Aidan. Aidan was a good friend and colleague of ours at Millstreet Community School. Aidan also stayed with me for a period of time in Clara Road during his time in Millstreet. I have very fond memories of our times together. His students loved him dearly and were excited by his unique way of teaching his subject matter. He appealed and was responsible in a very sincere way for their imaginative and creative development. Aidan was one of a kind and it was this uniqueness that endeared him to those of us who knew him. He loved his notebooks which contained his beautifully written poetry and a record of the songs that appealed to him . I will never forget his beautiful rendition of ' THE ROSE '. May his gentle soul rest in peace.

Sincere sympathy to all Mr. Hayes family and friends. Such a lovely sensitive person which came out in his teaching and poetry. Recalling a poem he wrote after a night time walk on the beach around Ballyferriter with a group of us, his MCS students…always inspiring. May his gentle soul rest in the softness of heaven.
It was a real pleasure to get to know Aidan when he moved to St. Shanaghan House in 2019. He had a very real and positive effect on all around him. Even when visiting him in Milford he had such a positive aura about him. We had such a laugh with Aidan when we were able to post his whole library to him 1 or 2 books at a time. He will be missed but we'll always remember him with a smile

Deepest sympathy to Aidan’s family and friends, he was an active member of The Cloughaneely Players for many years and it was always a pleasure to act with him and to meet him in Falcarragh. May he Rest in Peace.
My deepest condolenses to you all. Aidan was a joy to be around. He filled his space with wit, mischief, wisdom and gentleness. He inspired me greatly and helped me to grow more confident and secure in who I am. There are many things I will never forget about your wonderful Dad, but one I would like to make note of, is that when he first became a Grandfather, he had business cards made up saying "Aidan Hayes - Grandfather" and handed them out to people on the street. He was so proud. Sending you deep love and strength at this difficult time.
So sorry. Aiden was an absolute gentleman, glad to have met him more than once or twice over the years.
