Aidan O'Sullivan

Comhbhrón ó chroí do Clare agus an chlann go léir.Aidan was a much admired and respected teaching colleague of mine in Crescent and I feel privileged to have also known him as a trusted and close friend.As a teacher, Aidan was inspiring,caring and compassionate.As a friend ,Aidan was erudite and good humoured,wise and always very supportive.

In a school (CCC) where I was bullied every day for 5 years Mr. Adian O'Sullivan was a light in the darkness. The art class became my refuge and I was treated as an equal, treated with total respect. Art and his class saved me. I will never forget his kindness. A few years ago I was sitting in the cafe at the National Gallery when Mr. O'Sullivan walked over to me and said Hello. The fact that he remembered me meant so much. I am glad that I told him how much his class meant to me. He was an extremely unique soul and it is a loss to the world that he is no longer a part of it. He will always be a part of the lives he touched in such a positive way

I was terribly sad to hear this news. I always remember Aidan as a great swimmer and he was great fun, and always kind. Condolences to Clare and all the family. David and family.

Aidan was a stalwart of Crescent College Comprehensive SJ who had a profound impact on the lives of so many.

My most sincere condolences to Aidan’s family and all who loved him. Aidan was so gentle and so kind to his students. He treated us kids as real people.
We were lucky enough to have him in 4th year and he gave us a year-long project. We loved it. He was so nice to us that we spent as much time, lunchtimes, free classes etc, as we could in the art room on it. He always got the very best out of people.
Aidan also was my mum’s mentor for many years through the Adult Education art classes. Their group, who stayed together for more than 20 years, thrived under his guidance.
Rest in peace, Aidan. You made an impact on so many.

Aidan had a profound impact on me during his time teaching me art at Crescent College. His calming and encouraging nature, along with his endless kindness, patience and non-judgmental approach made learning so enjoyable. He inspired me to pursue my a career in art - a path I may never have taken without his guidance and belief.

About fifteen years ago, in a serendipitous moment, I was driving through Spanish Point when I caught sight of Aidan sitting at the back of a house. I turned the car around, knocked on the door, and had a brief but meaningful chat with him. It gave me the chance to thank him in person, which is something I’ll always treasure. That moment has stayed with me ever since. He will be deeply missed.

Sincere condolences to the O’Sullivan Family, in particular Frank and Des whom I know personally. Aidan was my art teacher in the Crescent, I still quote his humorous critiques of my work. Part of my few fond memories of School. May he rest in peace.

Dear Clare, I have just heard of the sad passing of Aidan, and I am so sorry that I didn’t know earlier. I have lovely memories of you all from our children’s time at St Michael’s, Morgan & Jeremy, Karen & Barbara and also Matt. My two will be very sad to hear of your loss. Sincere condolences to the O’Sullivan family. Aidan taught me in the 90’s in Crescent. Even though many years have passed I can close my eyes now and see his smile and hear his dulcet tones usually with a slight crescendo to a funny quip at the end. He made that whole corner of the school, warm and sunny - even on a dull day. Thinking of you all.

At an age where we were all fumbling through young adulthood… Mr O’Sullivan created a warm, light, secure and encouraging space for many. Most of all he treated everyone with respect, kindness and authenticity. For me personally, he had a massive impact on what would become my career. I am eternally grateful. Safe travels Aidan.

My deepest Condolences to all the O'Sullivan family. I was very sad to hear of the passing of Aidan. He taught me and was my form tutor for 6 years in the 1980s. An absolute gentle man, who had a calm presence that inflicted and gained great respect from all his students. He always had time to chat to you even in late years when I met outside of school.

Sully taught me art for leaving cert, was so shocked when I heard about his passing. He always encouraged me to strive for whatever I was passionate about. He made art history so interesting, which was completely why his leaving cert art history book is still a book I keep on my book shelf. Thanks Sully for the life lessons and my deepest condolences to clare, matt and the whole family. Your dad was a total legend. May he rest in peace
