As one of the many that spent much of their early years in Ailish’s loving care in the Sycamores, I am very saddened to hear of her passing. My sincerest sympathies and love to all of the Cousins and Matthews families and particularly to Ian, Pat, Kyle and Claire who’s care and friendship I still remember with great fondness.

I’ve only the warmest of memories of Ailish and the sense of security and fun I had while being minded by her. I even still remember sitting on her knee as a child and being fed from what seemed to be an endless bowl of carrot and parsnip mash! As we got older, she’d always show genuine delight whenever she’d see us and catch up after a Sunday mass. She was a wonderful individual, full of and surrounded by love, and is truly missed. May she rest in peace reunited with Harry.

Always a hugely popular person with all who knew her and her equally popular husband Harry, who predeceased her some years ago, through many wonderful years involvement in Kilkenny theatre and pantomime circles. An absolute lady at all times, I would consider it one of the great pleasures of my lifetime to have known and associated with Ailish and Harry Cousins throughout those great years in the Friary Hall and the Watergate. May their beautiful souls rest in eternal peace.
