He was very sociable and engaging individual; a champion tennis player. He served as a president of the past pupils union.

I knew Mr. Ashe well during his tenure as Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Rotunda Hospital for several years. He was such a gentleman always putting everyone at ease, a fountain of knowledge with a great interest in people and very compassionate.
