To all the Giles family may I extend my deepest sympathy. I have only just heard the news of Alan's passing. I had the privilige of having his sons as pupils in Scoil na Mainistreach during my time as Principal. Alan was one of the most respectful , gentle and persons I have ever met. Any time we met, which was always informally , he had a warm and genuine smile and always took time to chat . He had a complete committment, interest in and support for his boys education. . I am deeply sorry for your loss and for Alan who did not get the chance to enjoy retirement with you all.

But more importantly he became a good friend. His company was always great while playing cards, or having a beer, or a game of pitch n putt, or just having a chat.

Sincere condolences to the Giles family at this time of such a heartbreaking loss. Regrettably I was travelling when I heard the sad news and was unable to attend the funeral. Alan was always a gentleman, knowledgeable, insightful and generous with his time, and his genuine interest in people and love of a chat were hallmarks in his long career. Sadly a good man gone to his eternal reward far too early.

Farwell to one of the the good guys. First met Alan in the 1980's in Pearse House - he was always gentleman with a great sense of humour, a great worker and was always willing to help others. Happy memories of the card games and trips to Hollyhead come to mind.
