Alan was such a rock and a true gent who was always such fun to be around. I got to know him shortly after moving to Clontarf, he was one of my BB leaders becoming captain for a time.

There is so much I could say about Alan. He was one in a Million. In BB he was the one we all looked up to, because we knew everything he said was true and from the heart. Always the gent, happy, great fun and you knew when you saw Alan around you knew everything was going to be alright.

I have so many good memories of Alan from my time in the BB's where he was my officer, he was alway the nice one, the one who you could talk to and ask questions where I knew he would just answer without ridicule. Later his girls were in Greenlanes at the same time as my son. He Looked so fit in his tracksuit when I talked to him that I felt imbarrased, I had to question how much older than me was he? The last time I saw him was on a Ryan air flight he was working on, he gave me and Dave Burtenshaw free coffee and sandwitches, we thought, how very nice. Very hard to belive so soon after, we won't see him again. What a great influence he was on so many people. He will truly be sorely missed. RIP.

It seems so long since I've met Alan and yet it only seems like yesterday when we had some of the most memorable days of my life in the Clontarf Boys Brigade - The legendary BB camps, marching, drill, football, and the rest all come flooding back as great times. I'm sitting here in a pub in Sydney thinking of his visit here in '94, we had a great time. We always caught up when I came home.
