So sorry to hear of your mums passing and now your dad Alan. I was your late brother peters girlfriend for a few years and have fond memories of all the family. I’m very sorry for all the loss you have had. Thinking of you Ben and Rachel. Xx you’ll remember me Suzanne xx
So sad to hear of Alan's passing - I was lucky enough to have got to know Ann and Alan over the last 7 years due to our wonderful dogs Choo choo and Bergkamp. We had so many brilliant conversations about the world we live, times past and present...Condolences to the family. May you rest in peace
Dear Ben and Rachel and all the Johnson family,
So sad to hear of Alan's recent passing. Like many who have submitted condolences I got to know Alan at Phoenix Cricket Club. He was a better cricketer than me (not difficult I hear him say!) but, nevertheless, we did play on the same team on occasion. Alan was immensely enjoyable company, a wonderful raconteur (his library of jokes was limitless) and I will miss our all too infrequent get togethers. Rita and I send our deepest sympathy to you all.RIP Alan

Dear Ben, Rachel and all of the Johnson family,
I was so sad to hear about your dear dad Alan’s passing. He and Anne were not only great friends of my parents, Paddy & Maura, but also my cherished godparents. They showed huge affection to me over the years, for which I'm forever grateful. He was such a warm, kind-hearted man, a true gent, as so many have said, and I will always think of him with a smile.
Thinking of you all and sending love. My deepest condolences.

It was with my deepest sorrow that I learned of the passing of Alan. My sincere condolences to Ben and Rachel. I got to know Alan when I joined Phoenix CC in early 1970, when he played on the 1XI and was a very respected fast bowler by all the teams he played against. He had retired when in 1987 I approached him to play for me on the 3rd X1 and to my surprise he agreed. I would say that we had a wonderful understanding and enjoyed every game on the field of play, especially his jokes behind the wicket where he fielded at 1st slip. Alan you were wonderful person to know and will always be in my memory. God bless you and rest in peace.

My sincere condolences to Ben, Rachel and family. Ben and Rachel, your dad would have been so proud of the warm and caring words you gave at his funeral service. Alan had retired when I joined RCSI but I got to meet him at several RCSI Golf outings where we both would plod our way around golf courses - we never won any prizes but Alan was fabulous company, so witty and engaging!! I feel privileged to have known him, May he rest in peace.
My sincere condolences to the family of Prof. Alan Johnson. I got to know Alan during his time as a member of the Medical Council. He was a man of great wit and I am grateful to him for his many recommendations of Italian wine!

Sincere condolences to the Johnson family. You all gave such lovely accounts of him at the funeral. I first met Alan when I started in RCSI, and he was the Dean of the Faculty. I sat beside him at one of my first RCSI social events and he was so welcoming and engaging. In more recent years, I have become his neighbour and it was lovely to catch up with Alan on the road, out walking with his beloved Chu-chu.

Dear Rachel, Deepest sympathy on the loss of your Dad.We only really met annually in Malaysia where he was great company with a quirky sense of humour. He will be sadly missed by many.
I had the pleasure of working with Alan during his time with the Medical Council. He was an incredibly kind man and the most wonderful company on our many accreditation visits and Committee meetings. He was extremely thoughtful, very caring and always remembered even the smallest details about people and their families. His sense of humour was always appreciated and he was a terrific conversationalist. He adored his family, his passion for his work was always evident and he often spoke of his hobbies too - his golf, bridge and his film club! He truly was a unique, generous and kind gentleman - it was a privilege to work with him and he will be genuinely missed. Sending my sincere sympathy to Ben, Rachel, all Alan's grandchildren and his sister Margaret.
A fine bowler and an excellent team player. I still use some of his well-crafted quips – some of which could be repeated in this civilised forum. To read of his jaw-dropping academic prowess is an education – none of this was boasted about in Phoenix CC. Memories abound but – if I was to pick one – it was his stoic acceptance of many unfavourable umpiring determinations – most notably in north county Dublin! It was an absolute joy to have known him. RIP.
Sincere sympathy to the Johnson family on the death of Alan.
He was a talented biochemist, excellent administrator and kind gentleman.
It was an honour to have known him .

Thinking of Alan's family at this sad time. We were very fond of Alan. From all in Rathfarnham dental x
Very sad to hear of Alan's passing. I only came to know him in recent years as Chair of the Education and Training committee of Medical Council. He was superb in that role and his kindness and warmth were always to the fore. We compared notes on gardening often, he was clearly much more knowledgeable and successful than I was, and happy to share good advice!

He was always such a kind teacher, he wanted to see you excel but also enjoy yourself. Rest in Peace Professor Johnson.
I am sad to hear the passing of Professor Alan Johnson. I remember he interviewed me to enter medical school RCSI back in 1996. We all looked forward to his classes in RCSI as he would teach with just a chalk and blackboard and made all the biochemistry pathways and cycles make perfect sense. Till today, I can still recall this knowledge thanks to him. He will be missed greatly. On behalf of me and my RCSI classmates of 2002, a big thank you, Prof AJ. May you rest in peace.

Rachel and Ben,
I'm very saddened by the new's of your Dad's passing especially that it is so soon after that of your Mum. As you know he was a great friend of my late husband Paddy ever since they shared a flat while doing research in Trinity and later to work alongside each other in RCSI. Over the years the friendship deepened and the four of us had many wonderful and happy times together. Paddy and I loved him deeply and hugely enjoyed his engaging company.Your Dad was a great family man, full of love for your Mum and the two of you and of your late brother Peter. I will miss him. His passing is the end of an era for me. Please accept my condolences.

This is such sad news. My deepest condolences and very heartfelt condolences to Professor Johnson’s family. I will forever be grateful to Prof. AJ for interviewing me back in 1994. He was someone that’changed my life’s course when he said “welcome to RCSI”..his consistent belief in students was evident with his endless support and encouragement in Biochemistry and college life.
He will be greatly missed but never forgotten. Thank you..
He will be greatly missed but never forgotten. Thank you..
I am so sorry for your loss. Prof Johnson was one of our best and kindest teachers…and after we left college and bumped into him when we were no longer students, he was an amazing mentor and friend. He will be missed.
I have lovely memories of working with Alan when I was senior lecturer in the RCSI graduate school . We never needed to schedule a meeting over the five years I was there because all our decisions and plans were made in the staff room over extended and frequent coffee breaks. To Ben, Rachel ,the grandchildren and family I’m so sorry for your loss .
I am very sorry to hear of Alan’s sad passing. He was one of the first lecturer that that I had who treated us students as human beings and colleagues. I was very conscious that he was more of a colleague who didn’t really have or believe in a pupil teacher relationship. It was more like colleagues passing on information to each other. I always remember the gentle support that he used to encourage me in the Oral examinations. I actually assumed that biochemistry would be a difficult topic for me. But with his excellent tuition and support, I really enjoyed it. May his gentle soul rest in peace.
To the family of our dear Professor Johnson,
We hope that you will accept our deepest condolences at this difficult and sad time.
I feel truly blessed to have spent a wonderful morning with Prof Johnson this past August in Dublin. I shall hold close to my heart those few hours of reminiscing and laughing for the rest of my life. What an incredible teacher, what an amazing man!
Our family loved both Anne and himself so very much and treasure the true bond we shared between Ireland and Trinidad.
We will miss Prof- gone but never ever forgotten. Thank you for everything you ever did for us. We are so lucky to have had you in our lives.

I am so sad at your (and our ) sad loss. Alan was a very special person who will be sorely missed by many.
I will always remember him when I cook spaghetti carbonara or make real coffee because he taught me some of my best dishes on wonderful holidays in Italy.
Deepest condolences to you all.

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Alan's passing. He was my first boss in the Royal College of Surgeons and was a great mentor and champion for me within the organisation. He was instrumental in the success of Ireland's first graduate entry medical programme and we all enjoyed our time out in Sandyford under his leadership looking after those students. Outside of the office, we shared a great deal in common in terms of cricket, rugby, and (good) wine and I certainly learned a great deal about the latter from Alan. He will certainly be missed and I offer my condolences to his family. Rest in peace Alan.
Sincere condolences to Alan’s family and remembering Anne, also, at this very sad time.
Alan and Anne were long-time Members of the Regent and will be sorely missed by all of us.

I was so shocked and saddened to hear the news of Prof Alan Johnson’s passing. He was a wonderful, kind person and a marvellous teacher. I used to play squash with Alan in RCSI and then have my lecture from him. He will be sorely missed. May he rest in peace.

My sincere and heartfelt condolences to Alan's family on the loss of both your parents in such close succession.
Alan was a member of the Medical Council for some years, but I had the privilege of working closely with him as he was the Chair of our Education and Training Committee and a very valued member of our Assessor Panel. We spent time together traveling around the country on inspection visits. He used to order kippers for breakfast at the hotel, because Ann didn't like him eating them at home!!
I dropped in to see Alan at his home a few months ago and catch up with him and had been meaning to do so again. He was a lovely, kind, empathetic man - a true gentleman - always asking after everyone and offering whatever help he could. I was genuinely upset to hear of his passing. May he rest in peace.

My deepest condolences to Professor Alan Johnson’s family. I was more than fortunate to have been one of his students more than 35 years ago. My eldest son commenced university last week and stated to me how passionless and monotone most of his lecturers are. I can’t help but reflect how engaged and engaging, how humorous and dedicated that AJ was as a lecturer. His attention to us and his enthusiasm easily there to see. More recently he was great company on the golf course, a smile never far away and always pursuing a kind interest in how his companions’ individual lives were faring.
He will be greatly missed.

Sincere condolences to Rachel, Ben and to the extended family at this sad time. Alan is now at peace reunited with your mother Anne and Brother Peter. A good neighbour to all in Brookvale, always had time for a friendly chat whilst he was out walking the dog. Thoughts and Prayers with you all as you mourn the passing of a dear Father, Grandfather and friend may his gentle soul rest in peace and rise again in God's glory.
So sad. What a kind, kind man!
Still can't believe he passed me in biochemistry!
Last time I saw Alan I was running to Holles Street Hospital because my son was just born, and he said "your heading the right direction! Good luck!"
God speed Alan.
