I am so sorry to hear of Alan's passing. My sincere condolences Elaine, Michele and Alans family. I have lovely memories of babysitting in your home. May Alan rest in peace.

I was in the same history class as Alan in DCU. He had an admirable wealth of knowledge in history and his love for the subject was very clear. He was a great contributor within the class and he will be missed. Deepest condolences to his family on his sad passing. May he rest in peace.

To Almu, Michelle and Elaine, we know Alan is already holding court somewhere. He lived, he loved and was loved in return. We will miss him always.

Very sorry to hear of Alan’s passing. Fond memories of him in UCD bar and had a great weekend with him in Madrid when he was so generous with his time. Last time we met was on Boffin by chance a good few years ago.

Alan was enrolled on our History course in DCU. He immediately struck me as a bright, warm and engaging student but what marked him out most was his intellect- he possessed a sharp decerning mind for history and his passion for the subject was evident. I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing and I extend my deepest condolences to his family. May he rest in peace.

I am so very sorry to hear of Alan's passing. A loss for his wife and family, that cannot be measured in words.
I will remember Alan as a truly kind person, with a huge love for life and the biggest smile.

A light has gone out. It is hard to believe Alan is gone because he was always so vividly, intensely alive - he lived and loved with his whole heart. He gave his full attention to every conversation and never wasted a minute of his precious time on this earth. Without even trying, he gave us all a master class in how to truly live. Thank you Alan. Your friendship, gorgeous smile and shock of red hair will last like the light of old stars, beyond time and space.
Almu, Elaine, Michelle and Juliette, you only had to know Alan to know how hugely he loved you all. I am so very sorry and send you all my love.

I remember you from Gormanston and then in later years from Madrid.
I saw you on the metro in Madrid and said you went to Gormanston with me. Through the years of living in Madrid we crossed paths many times.
From fancing Swing and going for beers after. Living it up in the beautiful Spanish Capital.
I will and your friends and family will miss you dearly. You were gone too soon mi amigo.

I still can't believe Alan is not with us anymore.

Mi más sentido pésame para la maravillosa e inigualable Almu. Mucha fuerza y ánimo en esta hora tan difícil. Estaremos siempre contigo.

My most heartfelt condolences to Alan's wonderful sisters Michelle and Elaine. You taught us all a big lesson with your integrity, your tenderness, your unconditional love for your brother and your outright sympathy and kindness in those difficult hours in Madrid.

Alan was the brightest and funniest Irish person to ever put his foot in Spain. We talked about many things and laughed a lot through the years. We had in common our love for salsa (in the old days, before he turned to dancing swing) and shared many other things. Alan was smiling all the time with his patented wry and witty smile. Now when I think about it I can't remember seeing him sad. Ever. He was a good-vibes spreading machine. No wonder he made friends everywhere he went. We'll miss you so much, my friend. But with a huge smile, "Alan's style".

My deepest condolences to all of Alan’s family and loved ones, I am sorry for your loss. Alan and I attended Gormanston together, same class, same clan, room neighbours for final year – he was a kind soul then and looks likes he carried that lightness and joy throughout his life and touching others with it too. Many have wrote about his running, though I remember Alan as a great debater, with a sharp wit, cheeky smile and a great turn of phrase – I vividly recall him politely pointing out my idiocy for a debating claim I made, but he did so with a smile and made it funny not mean. Or screaming “Dude” across O’Connell street to join him and others for the day. Alan wrote my final year profile with kind words, something that meant a lot to me and that I will never forget. I’m so sorry to be writing this now in his absence. My heartfelt sympathies.

I didn’t know Alan but knew his parents and aunts, all lovely people. Alan sounds like a wonderful positive adventurer, his photographs demonstrated his love of life.

A great dancer, a great storyteller, a great friend when times were hard and a great wingman when they weren't.

You taught me to listen more to others, that life doesn't just happen you have to make it happen, and you tought me to love a culture I had abandoned years ago.

Very sorry to hear of the passing of Alan he was a true gentleman. I have known Alan since we were 10 years old playing sports in the local clubs together. I have not seen Alan in many years but always had very fond memories of him and listening to stories today at his funeral he never changed much over the years still very kind caring person that I remember. RIP. Condolences to all Alan’s family and friends especially his wife and sisters.

Alan, I feel lucky to have known you. You were an inspiration in so many ways. You were truly one of life's great characters and I know you've left so many great memories behind with those who knew and loved you. Rest in peace

So sad to hear about Alan’s passing. Such a gorgeous, inspiring person. It was always a pleasure to be in his great company. Thinking of his wife and sisters, extended family and his many friends at this difficult time xxxx

In this last year of getting to know Alan, it was easy to understand immediately what a great, special guy he was. Clearly smart and curious, I was impressed with his ambition in something such as undertaking a new ancient history course or chess. I marveled at how even if he was not feeling well, he turned his attention to others and to caring about how they were. His thoughtfulness extended to being keenly aware of the little things: remembering important details about others, I couldn't believe some of the little things he remembered to ask about months later. I loved what seemed like a passion for many things... I was thrilled to realize he loved the ballet; and in one of our last visits, was delighted when he spontaneously put on music with lyrics about Puerto Rico (where I live and was missing a bit), providing a special touch that made me smile and feel at "home." To all his loved ones, I cannot express in words anything adequate enough as a condolence for such a heartbreaking loss. Know that you are in my prayers. I hope you find peace through the love that you share with him and that his presence stays with you forever through that love. To me, his passion for life and the amazing bravery I saw despite the challenges placed in his way make him an everlasting hero that will forever inspire me and undoubtedly others. And I have a feeling that if you look for it, he will (maybe sometimes with his sense of humor) continue to make you smile in little ways all the time.

I was so profoundly sorry to hear of Alan's passing. We went to Gormanston together and my memory of Alan as an ever grinning mischievous but kind soul have been fresh in my mind. I'm so glad to hear that he lived a rich life after school. Deepest condolences to Almu and to all the Moran family on a life well lived. His memory and the thoughts they stirred will stay with us for many more years.
