Always missed, always treasured.
Below is a poem our dad Des Toal wrote and left for us after he passed.

Now that I’m gone, release me let me go.
I have things to see and do.
Don’t tie yourself to me in tears,
Be happy, we had some wonderful years.
I gave you my love,
You can only guess how much you gave me in happiness.
Thank you for the love you have shown.
But it’s time for me to travel on – alone.

Grieve a while if grieve you must.
But let your grief be comforted by trust.
It’s only for a while that we must part.
Bless and keep our memories in your heart.

Though you can’t see or touch me, I’ll be near,
Listen with your heart and you will hear all my love around you,
Soft and clear, and then,
When you come this way alone,
I will meet you; I will greet you with a smile
And welcome you home.

Alan not a day goes by but I haven't cried for you there was so much to look forward to life will never be the same I just hope some day we will meet again ❤ you were so special ❤ 😊

Dear Alan, I was so honoured to be present at your funeral mass, your friend John spoke so movingly and beautifully about you, the kind and generous larger than life man who stood for truth and justice no matter the cost, and Father Brendan who also knew you so intimately and spoke with such affection about your strong faith and belief in justice and your kindness and generosity to others. They … can’t hurt you anymore, rest easy my friend in arms of the angels in the knowledge that karma, truth, and justice will prevail.

I was very sad to hear of Alan's death. We worked together "back in the day". We had fun together and Alan always had an interesting tale to tell of his adventures. He was a man of courage and resilience. He presented a tough exterior but beneath that lay a kind and a compassionate disposition. I am glad to learn - albeit sadly on reading his death notice - that he found love and happiness and I would extend my deepest sympathies to his family. I shall miss him. Love and blessings. MMacN

Finally at Peace.

Sympathy to the Toal Family at this difficult time. When I arrived as a young recruit
to Blackrock Garda Station in 1985 was often on Beat Patrols with Alan for my first few weeks. Had some laughs with Alan. May he rest in peace.

Dear Alan, you told us your story and we listened and saw your pain.

From the place you are now, free of the limitations of body and pain, no doubt you will ensure that true and natural justice reigns on each and every one of those individuals who caused such unnecessary harm and pain.

Your spirit will also continue to protect the vulnerable too.

You studied, worked and fought hard, a true Warrior.

You shone bright in a dull world.

You listened and helped many.

You were a diamond amongst the rough.

Those who did wrong may believe they won, but they did not. You are in a stronger place now to ensure true justice is done.

May you rest peacefully while those who caused you harm lie awake night after night knowing that they will face you once again in the true and highest courts of Justice.
