Sincere condolences to Rosemary and family.

Although it has been some time since I last met him as I now live in England, my memories of him are still strong in particular, my first summer camp with the 3rd Stillorgan Scout Troop in Dundalk (1968), his explanation of the "facts of life" in his own inimitable style and New Years parties playing charades.

Alan will be missed. Above all what will be missed is his sense of real humor and the freely giving of his time to people who didn't know they needed it. I am grateful for having known Alan, for the time we spent together, for the laughs, for the weekend fishing trips and most of all for the happy memories. “Some people come into our lives and leave footprints on our hearts and we are never, ever the same” - to me that's Alan. Alan was always both a very kind and gentle man. Sincerest sympathies to all his family and friends. To Alan - we'll catch the one that got away in the next life :-). RIP Alan
When I first met Alan I was fresh out of nappies and very wet behind the ears. Alan was larger than life and had the patience of a saint. When I think of Alan I cannot even find the words to tell you how much he meant to all of us. Alan could scoop up a room and positivity just flowed from him. If anything was off kilter Alan jumped in and set it right again. Any scout from 3rd Dublin Stillorgan that spent any time with Alan owes him a debt of gratitude for everything he taught us. Living overseas at times like this stirs the memories of ringing Alan and Scully as soon as the wheels hit the runway in Dublin. We would corral the lads and ensure that we carved out some old scout time. One scout told me that good friends pick up where from we left off as if there were no long gaps between visits.
Rosemary, you know how much Alan meant to Jackie. Alan was a rock in the stormy seas and showed her that not all men are cut from the same cloth. Yesterday I found myself staring at an email Alan sent me to confirm that he had settled her estate, followed her wishes, and to help her two sons cope with their new normal—now we are struggling to do just that. We owe him such heartfelt gratitude for sharing. We can’t thank you and Alan enough for the time that you both gifted with selfless and caring hearts. So, without seeking anyone’s permission, 3rd Dublin Stillorgan salutes one last time. Alan, thank you for being a great friend we already miss you and you will always be in our hearts.
Sincere condolences to Alan’s family and friends. May he rest in peace.
So sorry to hear your sad news Laura, Kiama, Charlie and family. We are thinking of you at this very difficult time. Deirdre, Stuart, Sadhbh, Orna & Daire.

Our deepest sympathies to Rosemary and the Rice and McCartan families on Alan's passing.
Alan, like you Rosemary, was like family to us. A bright, warm, funny, larger than life character who had a great take on life. I’ll never forget Alan bringing David when he was very young on a 3rd Dublin Stillorgan Easter camp at Powerscourt. He was such a brilliant dad. It is impossible to express my deep shock and sadness at his untimely death. There were few men who did as much good as Alan. He had a positive, adventurous, can-do, practical approach to life and quietly helped so many in big and little ways, never expecting or asking for anything in return. He will be celebrated in story and memory for decades to come. May the love and esteem that so many hold for Alan bring you all some comfort. Deepest condolences to dearest Rosemary and family.

So sorry to read of Alan`s untimely death. Rosemary, Karl and extended family, you are very much in our thoughts at this difficult time.
So shocked and saddened to learn of Alan's so tragic and untimely passing, our thoughts and prayers are with you all. We have known Alan as one of life's true gentlemen since '95 through a mutually close and dear Bray friend and we share your great loss. We shared Alan's passions for cruising Irish coastal waters and ports, for good company and of course for the pure joy of the open road, whether one or two up, may you rest in peace friend.
