Alan, from the first day we met, I knew we would be firm friends. You were always there for me, through good times and bad. We shared many ups and downs, ( mostly ups ). You drew people towards you like a magnet. My wife Fiona, my children Sam and Anna adored you. What a personality ! We were ' best men' for each other, and I could not have had a better friend ! Thanks for all the great memories, Pete.

Alan, most my memories of you are from back in the day, when we were young and drunk. Especially when we were all waiting for my first son to be born and yous were all at the Rose & Crown pub, waiting with baited pints to celebrate. All good memories of a lovely, lovely gentleman. Safe Journey, I do believe we’ll see you again✨

We joined you online for the beautiful requiem mass and shared both a tear and a chuckle. Big Al was a legend, a one off. I had the pleasure of working alongside Alan for most of his time in London. He made many lifelong friends who will all be very sad at his passing. He had a big personality and was a loyal and wise friend. It did make me chuckle to hear that he could be contrary!! We had the pleasure of staying with him in Oughterard a few times and meeting his friends and family while there. He gave us the grand tour around his home, Galway and the places he loved.
You will be missed Alan. Rest in Peace.
Sincere condolences to Suzanne,Vernon,Ken and family on the passing of Alan, our thoughts are with you at this sad time, may he rest in peace
It is a fitting tribute to the man Alan was by the lovely condolences on this site. I was married to Alan and it is a testament to the man himself that I want to see him one last time. He had a great influence on my life and I wouldn't be living in London today if it wasn't for Al. People said he had a great sense of humour, yes he was one of the wittiest men I ever knew. Especially when him and his friend Martin were chatting, they were a double act. I remembering him doing an IQ test and the result was a quite staggering 130. He would have only needed three more points for Mensa. We travelled around Europe together Inter railing and I know we both could say they they were stand out adventures. It didn't work between us, but we always kept in touch. He always phoned my Mam Rita (RIP) every Christmas and she looked forward to his calls. I am so glad I am currently on my way to see you Alan one last time. Rest in peace, and give Iggy and Nina a big kiss for me x
Big Al,
We will always remember you fondly and have lovely memories to look back on such as trips to the Burren, our fist time in London or even just the times you’d call in for a cup of tea and several Rich Tea biscuits!
Thanks for being such a wonderful friend to both our parents, especially our Dad.
You will be sorely missed.
Very sorry to hear of Alan's death. You are in our thoughts and prayers . May God rest Alan's soul.
So shocked and sadened by the sudden passing of my good friend Alan.
I knew he had pneumonia, but i really thought he would recover. I didn't know he was back in hospital over it, and hence the shock and dismay.
I wish to express my deep shock and dismay to the Rushe family, and all of Alan's friends over the sudden and untimely passing of my oldest friend Alan. I met him first in St Mary's College in 1976, and i had many good times with him in those early years. We had lost contact during his many years in London, but we met up again shortly after he came back to Ireland. I visited him a few times in his new home at Portacarron. I was also able to visit him during his first stay in hospital with the cancer.
I knew he had contracted Pneumonia, but i fully expected him to recover from it. I didn't know that he was in hospital again, and hence my shock and dismay. I have seen the death notice, and i hope to be present tomorrow.
Vernon, I am verry sorry to hear of the death of your brother Alan. My sympathies to you and all the Rushe family. Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a anam dilis. Gearóid Lohan

My sincere condolences on the loss of your lovely Alan. We had the pleasure of his company in the horticultural class this past year. Alan had an uncanny sense of humour, a great wit and a love and knowledge for horticulture. We were so lucky to have spent a day in the grounds of his beautiful home. Alan was in his element as were we, as we all pursued new knowledge through pruning his many fruit trees. We were given a guided tour of his beautiful home and his man shed! Alan had many plans ahead and he sure lived life pursuing new things, bee keeping was next on his list. Alan you were a gentle soul, a mind of information and were always in pursuit of new adventures . It was so lovely knowing you. Suaimhneas síoraí do d'anam milis.
