Dianne and Dee, how very sorry I am to hear of the passing of your dad, Alan. Always enjoyed his company and lovely smile when we shared a game of golf in Portmarnock Golf Club. A great listener and one that took a great interest in other peoples issues of which I was a very fortunate beneficiary. Will very much miss him gracing the fairways. May he Rest in Peace.

I knew Alan as a friend and in business. We shared an interest in the piano and music generally, as well as in sailing. We did not meet socially that often, but it was always fun when we did. I recall a wonderful weekend in Japan as guests of Yamaha. We were both there separately on business and needed to spend the weekend somewhere, so we linked up.
In business Alan was one of the most clever and most straight forward people I ever had dealings with. It was great in both arenas of life, to have known him.

I am so sad at Alan's passing. He and his sailing friend Paul bought my sailing yacht "Sparkle", a Westerly 26, from me some years ago. He treated that boat with loving care. Whenever we met, he would recount an amazing coincidence, of the time when he and Paul in a storm, sought refuge in "Sparkle" in a remote port on the west coast of Scotland, to be greeted at the local yacht club by my only friend in Scotland, John McKenzie, who also was storm-bound. Alan was not just a gentleman, he was kind and happy. I will miss that lunch we were always planning to have. Henry Murdoch

I was very sad to hear the news of Alan's passing. We served together on the Council of Chartered Accountants Ireland. Alan was an astute and good humoured contributor to our deliberations and a wise counsellor during my term as Institute President. I was privileged to have known him.

Alan qualified as a chartered accountant in I think 1961 a year ahead of me. Over the years our paths crossed when he worked in the Jefferson Smurfit Group, the McGrath family and latterly we served together on the board of an IFSC investment fund. He was always a gentleman to deal with and his counsel very much appreciated. Never saw him rattled or angry. It was my privilege to know him and I wish all the family real blessing in knowing that their dad and grand dad has left a very special legacy
