Alastair McNeill

It was a privilege to be a colleague of Alaistair in Johnstown many years ago. I remember his energy and enthusiasm his love of his job and his good humour and kindness towards his fellow teachers. We lived in the same house in Watson's for a time. I remember the music (which could be at any hour of the 24), I remember his contribution to our staff soccer team, the early morning runs he and I used to go on at Dunlaoghaire Pier and I remember his visit here to Scariff in Co. Clare where he royally entertained my parents with his guitar. But is the wonderful human being that I will always recall when I think of Alastair.
To his wife Mary and daughters Siona and Cariosa I offer my heartfelt sympathy on your great loss. May Alastair rest in peace

Condolences to Mr. McNeill's family and friends. I was lucky enough to be in his class in 5th and 6th in Johnstown and have nothing but great memories of those times- days of music, stories and fun. He was a brilliant man.

Condolences to the McNeill family on the loss of Alastair. I was a pupil of his in 5th and 6th class back in the early Eighties in Johnstown BNS. Nothing but fond memories of him as a teacher and person. May he rest in peace.

My sons Adam and Lorcan Brennan are past pupils of Our Lady of Good Counsel Boys N.S., and held Mr. Mc Neill in great respect and fondness. His musical talents are legendary.

Alastair enriched all of us who taught with him as colleagues in Johnstown Boys’ National School and the innumerable pupils who learned from him, directly and indirectly, through his luminous personality. It is no exaggeration to assert that he was the embodiment of the great teacher, radiating goodwill to all whom he encountered within and without his classroom. It was always uplifting to see boys from different classrooms racing towards Alastair’s, at lunchtime and after hours, with guitars in their hands and joyful anticipation in their faces. My deepest sympathy to Mary and to his daughters Síona and Caríosa, and to all those who are in mourning at his departure. Níl aon amhras ach go bhfuil Alastair imithe ar shlí na fírinne.
